Kiambu District of Kenya, and learned to love art in school. His interest in art was rekindled after meeting other young artists in Ngecha. He began to work with them, and joined the Gallery Watatu in Nairobi. In 2000, Charles was thrilled to be invited to exhibit his art at the United Nation's headquarters in Kenya.Since then, Charles has participated in art exhibitions, events and festivals as far away as Africa and near as the Brush Art Gallery in Lowell. Charles' dream is to see artists world-wide be free to express themselves globally and without limits.
James Muratha Michugo is also from Ngecha, Kenya. He is an |

interdisciplinary artist who, while primarily self-taught, was exposed to art and opportunity as a young man. James learned to use colors creatively from his teachers, who encouraged him to develop his artistic talents. He studied art at the Ngechi Y.M.C.A Polytechnic and joined the Ngecha Artists Association. James has taken many workshops, and worked as print technician with an international group of printmakers. He has exhibited in London, Japan, South Africa and Boston. His mostly abstract, figurative paintings express his inner feelings, which explode as forms and colors on his canvases and works on paper.

Mural drawing
| Rachel's winning mural design is unified by a road map of Lowell. Her long composition is broken into 3 sections, each related to Lowell's history and evolution. Her panels are abstract aerial landscapes. Her wheel motif has many references-- from the mill wheels of Lowell, to the Goddess Fortuna, and the wheels of time. Rachel's use different paints-- some matte, some glossy, and some with the brilliance of metallic leaf give the mural an unexpected brilliance. |
