These works embrace the visual discomfort of something inside-out, the feeling of being insider or outsider, the act of a transition between the inside to outside. Each of these artworks hold this tension that presents a dichotomy and duality of the phrase "inside-out." In choosing these pieces for Inside-Out, I adhered to a existential concept, desiring to push a philosophical perspective that is a little twisted, inverted and disturbed. I chose work that challenges our eyes our minds. There were excellent submissions that I didn't include because of my desire to take on the tension of opposition. It is an eclectic show that seeks to balance the dystopic, visceral, traditional, folksy and analytic views from an inside-out world. ~ Anna Shapiro
