THE WINNING PROPOSAL
Our proposed work is a collaborative, multimedia piece. As part of the mural we are combining our love for working with live plants (garden beds), bright colors (paint), recycled materials and community involvement.
The squares In the center of the mural are vertical garden beds, essentially wooden frames within frames. We will grow ivy, cedum and phlox inside the frames. The natural formation and growth of the plants will compliment the hard edges of the mural and vertical beds. The plant life will be rooted in layers of peat moss, soil and gravel (for drainage) held together by chicken wire/netting. The rest of the mural will surround the beds and take up the rest of the wall space.
The painted spaces that will surround the hanging vertical garden beds will create illusionistic space using 3D elements and vibrant tones to capture the viewers attention from near and far. One side will showcase Lindsey's work and the other Stephanie's. We will collaborate in the center.
We will ask the gallery community to volunteer in the care and upkeep of the vertical garden beds. Our mural is a testimonial and visual translation of our personal missions to keep our creative visions and projects alive with the support of our community. In addition to community involvement, we are creating a visually striking "green" facade and only using found and recycled materials to add to our conscious mission.
