Greetings!
If you're like me, you're pretty happy to see all this snow melting. Although I'm told not to get my hopes up, (this is my first winter in New England) there is something nice about being able to see patches of grass here and there. Luckily there are plenty of ways to celebrate this fake spring at the gallery. We've got the opening reception for our current exhibition, 'The Space Between the Pit and The Peak, Incarnate Two' happening this Thursday starting at 7 p.m. There's also great lineup for the 21st- improv jazz followed by some serious dance music.
Need a little more poetry in your life? Lowell Poetry Network will be having our first installment of a monthly open mic on the 26th. The very next day is our first annual XFest, featuring 50 artists from all over the country in a collaboration of sound, movement and visuals. Sounds like I'm going to be busy... Stop by and say hello.
Hope to see you soon!

XFest 2009
Three days, 50 artists, all free
"The Lowell Folk Fest has gone commercial," says 119 Gallery Director Walter Wright, "Few, if any, local musicians
are included. I wanted to create an alternative festival celebrating
the work of today's real 'folk artists?' From this thought, a simple
plan evolved- invite 10 artists from outside our region to Lowell to
play with 40 local artists at 119 Gallery, Lowell's alternate venue."
The festivities kick off on Feb 27 at 8 p.m. with 10 half hour sets, complete with improv visuals. Each performance is an improvisation between local musicians and those from outside New England. Saturday morning kicks off with an improv sound workshop. The music starts at 2 p.m, complete with dancers. On Sunday the music finishes up with an improv movement class at 6 p.m. The best part? All of it's free. For a complete lineup visit our website.
