Greetings!

July flew by with two vacations - one on the motorcycle and one in the car. Since one trip was on a motorcycle, I needed to find a great place for Hobbes. Hobbes does not do well in a kennel because he needs so much people time and our friends were out of town.

I found the perfect solution - Pets Are Inn! Ann Platt, the owner, interviewed me about Hobbes' habits, including where he sleeps, whether he likes other dogs, medical issues (none), etc. Hobbes stayed with a host family that fit his needs. Hobbes' chauffeur picked him up and delivered him to the home of his "host family" and drove him home to us too! His host wrote a letter telling us about his visit, including his not handling the heat on a long walk. I forgot to tell Ann that Hobbes does not handle temps over 80 degrees well.  The host took him for a walk when the humidity was low and about 85 degrees. I highly recommend Pets Are Inn - they are in eight states and been hosting pets since 1984!

As I got Hobbes ready for his "vacation," I thought of many details on preparing him to stay away from home. I hope you find them helpful.

Then a few weeks later, we took car vacation to Michigan and Hobbes joined us. Traveling with a dog changes a vacation in many ways. We found BringFido.com was very helpful in finding motels that accept dogs. Unlike Minnesota, in Michigan a dog cannot join you on a deck or patio for a meal. Instead we found sidewalk seating was acceptable. During our trip, we learned a lot about pet travel and want to share them with you.

Hobbes shared photos and his thoughts about his vacation in Animal Bridges Facebook - he'd love for you to see them!

Have a wonderful August. There are lots of events going on all over. So have fun!

Take care,

Elaine
