Greetings! Somehow spring lasted a week or so and suddenly it feels like summer in Minneapolis. I heard a rumor from a local meteorologist that spring will return in a few days! Well, at least the snow is gone for many months!
As I sit in the "executive suite" (aka, three-season porch), I'm enjoying the breezes and looking out on the hostas peaking up from the dirt. Today Hobbes and I saw daffodils and tulips in bloom! Many people are starting to dig in the dirt (some dogs too) and planting gardens.
Did you know the spring flowers we love may be toxic to your cats and dogs? Some of the toxic plants include azalea, begonia, coleus, daffodil, hosta, peony, and tulip. These plants may cause vomiting, diarrhea, excessive drooling, and oral irritation. For more information, check out a longer list of toxic and non-toxic plants for cats, dogs, and horses. If your pet shows any signs of toxicity, please contact your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 (a 24-hour hotline - a number to keep handy). The hotline charges a $65 consultation fee for this service.
Is your dog a digger and ruining your newly planted garden? If so, you may want to create a spot in the garden especially for him or her. In addition, Tellington TTouch® touches will help stop the digging. Let me know if you need some help.
Recently I helped a nervous dog relax, explained to a cat that his people needed to go to work and would come home, and helped a five-month old puppy with a strained knee. I really enjoy helping you make life better for you and your pet. Please remember you can always contact me for a free 10-minute consultation on your pet.
Have a wonderful May.
Take care,
