Outdoor Living!
We love to extend our living space to the great outdoors. Spending time on the porch or patio without sacrificing comfort and style gives the feeling of a favorite getaway. When decorating an outdoor space, it's important to treat it just as you would any indoor room. Use furniture, fabrics, pillows and accessories in the same way that you would inside. There are a wide variety of outdoor appropriate materials, so finding items that are suitable shouldn't be a problem.
To get started transforming spaces outside your house, consider these tips:
-Style any outdoor room in a way that's complimentary to the style of the home. Colors, patterns, and style should reflect what's inside. It should be a seamless transition when guests walk outside.
- Create functional seating areas with comfortable furniture that people will want to relax in.
- Lay an area rug made of weather-resistant material. It will help define your areas, or add a pop of color or bold pattern for interest.
- Lighting is important outdoors for evening entertaining. Use plenty of lanterns and candles. Strings of decorative lights add a magical element to any backyard room.
- Block wind and create privacy with a lattice covered in vine, or a large hedge. Sheer curtains and blinds can also add privacy while filtering sunlight.
- Consider a water feature. It creates a soothing natural sound and helps block noise from outside distractions.
Summer is the perfect time to get outside and savor the sunshine. Whether your outdoor space is large or small, your budget huge or nonexistent, there are plenty of things you can do to create a beautiful space that will last for seasons to come.

Marylynn is a life long resident of beautiful Bay City and enjoys many of the city's fine amenities and outdoor recreation opportunities. In summer, you may find Marylynn inline skating on the rails to trails pathway, kite flying near the river, walking the river walk or just enjoying a relaxing concert in the park. In cold winter months she concentrates on home improvement projects, with reading, aerobics and kickboxing being enjoyable pastimes. She earned degrees in interior design from Delta College and business from Northwood Institute, a solid mix that adds to her success at Art Sample and makes for an improved and informed shopping experience for you. Her interior design career began 16 years ago when designing and installing custom window treatments. Five years later, Marylynn learned floor covering and worked primarily with builders on new home construction as well as with the apartment industry, a valuable time in career development for Ms. Forgash. In 2008, Marylynn stepped into the furniture end of the field which she found to be very fulfilling, allowing her to use her creative abilities on a daily basis to help clients find the best and brightest solutions for their homes.
