Greetings! The next 30 days are busy ones for the Fund for Women & Girls, and we'd love your participation.  There is something for everyone in the month of May! Please join us!

RSVP for 2nd Annual Meeting (a.k.a. "Soiree") of the Fund for Women & Girls

Wednesday, May 4th

5:30 - 7:00 pm

(doors open at 5:00 for refreshments and socializing)

Northwest Maritime Center, Upstairs

We're celebrating our one-year anniversary with a reprise of last year's fun and inspiring kick-off event. We are delighted that Barbara Stanny will be joining us once again, speaking about "leaving a legacy through powerful affluence." We'll also hear from some of the teenagers who participated in the Port Townsend Marine Science Center's GIRLS Project, funded by our first grant. And we'll select our grantmaking focus for 2012.

We hope to see lots of new faces at the tables, but you're invited to return and/or invite a friend. If you would like to attend or help out as an event volunteer, please RSVP by Tuesday, April 19, so we may reserve your seat and one for a friend.

This event is free, and also your opportunity to commit to continuing the work of the Fund for Women & Girls! We hope that you feel inspired to give!

For Mother's Day, honor your mother....or someone who has been like a mother to you ~ by April 27

Mother's Day is fast approaching and it's time once again to honor your mother, grandmother and other women who have made such a difference in your life.  Surprise that special woman with her name next to yours in The Leader!

The Fund for Women and Girls is publishing a Mother's Day Tribute in the May 4 edition of The Leader newspaper.  Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Dr. Robert & Janet Palmer and The Port Townsend Women's Clinic, all donations to the Mother's Day Tribute ($50 minimum) will go toward the endowed fund and are tax-deductible.

The deadline to participate is April 27.

Send your name, the name of the person you would like to honor, and a check to:

PO Box 1955

Calling all "fashionistas":

Tickets on sale now for Wearable Art Show

Friday, May 13th

7:30-9:30 pm

Madrona MindBody Institute, Fort Worden

The first-ever Port Townsend Wearable Art Show "From Beautiful Apparel to Beyond Belief" presented for and by the Fund for Women & Girls will be held on May 13th, 2011, starting at 7:30 PM.

"You have to see this to believe it....and when you do, you won't be disappointed!" say the organizers.

This juried runway show uses the human form as a kinetic part of an artistic piece. Twenty regional artists have submitted 29 "costumes" to compete for cash prizes and the People's Choice award. They range from functional to fantastic-or something in between. Many pieces are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Fund.

Fashionistas, don't miss this movable feast for the eyes!

Tickets are $25, which includes a champagne reception following the show where the pieces will be on display and the artists and their live models will be available to discuss their work. Purchase tickets now!

and there is more.....

With each fundraiser, the Fund continues to grow, endowing future grants for women and girls in our community. We are pleased to report we raised nearly $1,000 for the Fund at the Magnificent Seven Jewelry Trunk Show on Feb. 4 at the Undertown Café. Thanks to all the artists and shoppers who participated!

An idea that was sparked at last spring's kick-off event came to fruition on March 8, when the Fund hosted a financial planning Q&A for young women with children--because philanthropy grows from financial stability. Certified Financial Planner Doug Van Allen, a board member of the Jefferson County Community Foundation, gave the participants lots to think about! Contact Shelly Randall if interested in attending or helping with future events.

If our inaugural year for the Fund for Women & Girls is any indication of what is to come....hold on and watch out!

The best is yet to come!

Yours,
Debbi Steele
