DIMP Final Rule Released.....
SHRIMP Nearing Completion!

49 CFR Part 192 Pipeline Safety: Integrity Management Program for Gas Distribution Pipelines; Final Rule was formally released December 4, 2009

PHMSA's new Distribution Integrity Management Program rule will become effective on February 2, 2010. All gas distribution system operators will then have 18 months to develop and implement an integrity management program.

Thanks to the APGA Security & Integrity Foundation (APGA-SIF), and with support from PHMSA and State pipeline safety regulators, your gas distribution utility will have access to the necessary tools to help you write your utility's Distribution Integrity Management Plan (DIMP). A powerful, yet flexible, plan development tool called "SHRIMP" is nearing completion and will be available to all gas utilities. For more information on SHRIMP Click Here.

SHRIMP is an online tool that gas utility operators can use to produce a complete, written plan customized for their specific needs and to electronically update annual reporting requirements in accordance with the new rule. Thus, SHRIMP is much more than a model plan and the only thing small about SHRIMP is its cost. For utilities with 1,000 or fewer customers SHRIMP is FREE. For larger utilities, the cost is minimal (maximum price $5,000/year), and the proceeds are used to provide ongoing technical support, updates, and enhancements to SHRIMP.

SHRIMP is a complete DIMP compliance program, meeting all the requirements of the DIMP rule. It is NOT "DIMP Lite".  APGA-SIF and PHMSA have taken care to ensure that the DIMP plans developed by SHRIMP fully address all the requirements of the rule - the same high standard applies to all utilities from the very largest to the smallest.

At this low cost all gas distribution companies, regardless of size should consider participating in SHRIMP if only to use as a quality assurance tool against any internal or independently developed Distribution Integrity Management Plan.
