Battle for Health Care Freedom will begin in House Financial Institutions and Insurance (FII) Committee -- ACTION REQUIRED! March 14, 2008
SB 1048 TO BECOME THE CHIROPRACTIC
COPAYMENT DEDUCTIBLE BILL

If you check the webpage for the Arizona Legislature today at www.azleg.gov, you will find that SB 1048 is a DUI bill that has passed the Senate. If you simply ask House members to support SB 1048, they will question why chiropractors and their patients are supporting this bill. Explaiin that after this bill is sent to the FII committee, it will be subject to a "strike everything amendment" and will be converted from a DUI bill into the chiropractic copay/deductible bill with the exact same language as SB 1152. This is a common parliamentary procedure at the Legislature which all members are quite familiar with. This explains why DCs are supporting a bill which now is a DUI bill.

Have you read the 80 page complaint filed by ACS against the Arizona Board of Chiropractic Examiners, together with the Ombudsmans's findings and the ACS response to the Ombudsman? How about the Court ruling against the Board from 2007? You can find all this and much more on this most valuable webpage for Arizona Chiropractors, www.AZChiropractors.org.
Arizonans want the choice of chiropractic or medical care for neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Insurers have eliminated this choice by establishing exorbitant copays and deductibles for chiropractic care. SB 1048 will lower chiropractic cost sharing to the levels for primary care services so that patients can forego narcotic addictive pain drugs and choose chiropractic care. In this newsletter, you will learn the necessary steps you must take to make this bill become law. Get busy!
TARGET YOUR EFFORTS AT THE HOUSE FII COMMITTEE TO PASS THE COPAY/DEDUCTIBLE BILL

The House Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee (FII) is where you need to focus your efforts right now in order to pass the chiropractic copay/deductible bill. The Committee includes ten state representatives. Each represents a legislative district in Arizona. We will list each member below complete with name, phone number, email address, and general geographical area of the district represented. It is essential that you and especially your patients make multiiple contacts with these members explaining why real people really need chiropractic care to avoid having to rely on powerful narcotic addictive pain drugs, and that passage of SB 1048 is mandatory to make chiropractic affordable again. It is vital that those of you in the actual districts represented by committee members contact those specific members. Get to work now and do not  stop until the committee vote occurs. We will send an email once we know the date of the hearing. It will also be necessary for you to attend the hearing. We will advise as soon as we know the date. Stay tuned to your email.

ACS TO POST LISTING OF KEY JOURNAL ARTICLES ONLINE, MAKE COPIES AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS

We have entered the age of Evidence-Based Medicine. Therefore, claims made by chiropractors must be based on peer-reviewed scientific journal studies accepted by the Natiional Library of Medicine. ACS has collected dozens of key journal studies that provide scientific support for the benefit of chiropractic care in a number of conditions, and which prove the safety of chiropractic. Many other studies address common whiplash issues such as low speed impacts, percent of patients that develop chronic pain, etc. ACS has become "information central" for its members.

ACS will soon begin to list all studies in its library on the webpage. Members will be able to contact ACS and get copies of these extremely valuable studies for use in writing PI narrative reports, testifying in court, responding to IME challenges, battling the Chiropractic Board, answering the media, and many other reasons. This is a unique service offered only to ACS members for no additional charge.
