Summer Break Spot Summer Food Program Summer BreakSpot Friends. Food. Free. All Summer Long. Free meals for kids and teens 18 and under.
Summer Break Spot is a new statewide initiative and a lot like a school lunch program except that it is in the summer and it is FREE for all kids 18 and under. It is a federal nutrition program that local non-profits use to make sure kids in the community do not go hungry during the summer. Summer Food sites serve nutritional, balanced meals that meet U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines.

2-1-1 Big Bend News |
June 2012 |
Greetings! ,
 | Randy Nicklaus, President |
We recently began our new summer training class for volunteer hotline counselors. I'm proud to say that we selected 34 individuals to join our training program and look forward to their involvement. I have to give a lot of credit to our staff and current volunteers for recruiting such a wonderful group of new trainees. Our Coordinator of Volunteers, Liovani Nazario, provides the leadership for our volunteer recruitment and supervision. She does a great job!
In addition to hotline volunteers, we are always looking for qualified student interns to work at our agency. Students in social work, communications, marketing, public relations and other fields are encouraged to apply.

Community Partner of the Month
Mad Dog Construction

Mad Dog Construction has been a part of the Tallahassee community for more than 35 years. Their belief in the integration of business success with civic responsibility is exemplified in the Mad Dog's selection as the first Tallahassee business to be recognized as a "Volunteer of the Year" by Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. As a recently new member of "Partner's of Promise" Mad Dog signed up with DCF Tallahassee to help children and families in need. They are also a huge supporter of 2-1-1 Big Bend, contributing to our annual benefit as a sponsor. We are truly grateful for the continued suport each year. Mad Dog continues to build more than just buildings. |

Board Member Spotlight
Dr. Aigner George

Dr. Aigner George received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Hampton University and completed her pharmacy practice residency at Tampa General Hospital. In 2006 she moved to Tallahassee and took on the role of Clinical Manager of Pharmacy Services at Capital Regional Medical Center and then director. She is currently the North Florida Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services for Hospital Corporation of America as well as a newly elected board member for 2-1-1 Big Bend. Dr. George believes that providing tools and helping patients promote their quality of life is the most rewarding aspect of her career. Dr. Aigner George first learned about 2-1-1 through a friend asking her to serve on the board. Upon further investigation of what 2-1-1 Big Bend brings to the community she wants to help aid in making our organization well known to the Big Bend region. In her spare time Dr. George enjoys quality time with her husband, stepson and her two pugs. 2-1-1 Big Bend welcomes Dr. Aigner George to our agency family! |

The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of HIV/AIDS recognizes June 27th as National HIV Testing Day. More than 200,000 people in the U.S. are living with HIV and don't know it. On this day, people are urged to get tested for HIV and to encourage family and friends to do the same. One of the most important steps in preventing HIV is to get tested and know your status.
