2-1-1 Big Bend News

  January 2012

Greetings!  ,
Randy Photo
Randy Nicklaus, President

This year promises to be another busy and productive one for our hotlines and other program activities.
January kicks off our annual collaboration with the United Way of the Big Bend and the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.  Anyone can call 2-1-1 to get information about free tax preparation assistance through VITA and the locations and times for these services.
We are collaborating with the Cold Nights Shelter workgroup and serving as the 24 hour hotline for information about when the shelter is open and details about that service.  Our staff members are also assisting with the planning of the development of the Renaissance Project to provide daytime services to individuals that are homeless.
Our board and leadership staff will be meeting this month to develop some key strategies to move our organization forward and our new hotline volunteer counselor training class will kick off before the end of January.
This is just the beginning of many projects and collaborations we will be involved in during 2012.
Special thanks are offered to the Capital City Bank Foundation for their $750 grant to our agency in December.  Below, Tiffany Parker, representing Capital City Bank, presents their check to me and our agency.  We are very grateful of this support and to many individuals who have provided contributions during the past month.

P.S. SAVE THE DATE (April 21, 2012) for our annual fundraising event - A Night in the Tropics!  If you want to become a sponsor or donate an item to our silent auction, please let me know.

Sunrise Rotary Club of Tallahassee

Sunrise Rotary Club has a very active membership of more than 65 Rotarians that serve on boards of directors, volunteer in community organizations and raise funds for community programs.  It's annual Brewfest (held in October) has become a well known event that generates thousands of dollars for charitable projects.  It is attended by 2,000 people who enjoy tasting craft beers and is sponsored by beer distributors and local businesses.

Currently, four Sunrise Rotarians serve on the 2-1-1 Big Bend board of directors and several Rotarians are past board members.  Sunrise Rotary meets every Tuesday morning at 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. at the Civic Center.  Guests are encouraged to attend!

Sunrise Rotary Club is one of our 2012 Presenting Sponsors for "A Night in the Tropics," our annual fundraising event.  Thank you Sunrise!

Board Member Spotlight

Cori Bauserman,MSW,LCSW

Cornerstone Clinical Assessement, Inc

  1. How long have you been a board member?
I was elected to the board June of 2009
  2. What is the most rewarding aspect of serving as a board member?

I love working with a committed group of board members that truly wants the Big Bend community to avail themselves of the many services and programs here. This group of folks isn't resume building or looking for another way to be seen in the community. They attend meetings, promote the agency in the community and work cooperatively with one another. They are serious about their charge.  This Board wants 2-1-1 Big Bend to be active in helping those in need in the Big Bend area.
  3. What is one thing you would want people to know about 2-1-1 Big Bend?

2-1-1 Big Bend has a "one-stop shop" approach to providing social service information to our community. One phone number can answer so many questions. For folks who are in crisis, the simplicity of calling one person is huge. 2-1-1 Big Bend makes tough times a little easier.
