2-1-1 Big Bend News |
November 2011 |
Greetings! ,
It's hard to believe November is here already! In this issue we are highlighting a few seasonal services that are available to the community such as Toys for Tots and the Thanksgiving Feast. I encourage you to call 2-1-1 for additional seasonal services and deadlines.
The toll-free Oil Spill Distress Helpline (1-800-985-5990), a 15 month project in which we partnered, will be coming to an end on December 15. However, our hotline counselors will continue to assist people experiencing stress and emotional issues related to the oil spill and other economic factors through our regular Helpline 2-1-1 number. The Distress Helpline project allowed us to help many people throughout Florida and it provided some excellent training for our counseling staff.
Our experienced trainers will be offering an ASIST training for the community on January 13-14, 2012. The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a nationally recognized program. 15 CEUs will be available to participants in the mental health, counseling and social work fields. The cost of the training is $150. For more information, contact outreach@211bigbend.org.
Finally, I want to welcome our newest staff members Jane Holmes-Cain and Sheila Horne to our agency leadership team. Please see their short bios below.
