Again, I would like to mention that our monthly Helpline 2-1-1 Snapshot lists the programs we refer to most often and the top requests of our callers. They are always available on our website.


Our hotline counselors will be answering the call 24/7 during this festive season including all holidays.  I would like to thank them for their commitment to helping others and giving up some of their own holiday time to do so.  We are very fortunate to have these dedicated counselors serving our community.

FL HIV/AIDS Hotline Provides Help        

  

2-1-1 Big Bend, Inc. recognizes Dec. 1 as World AIDS Day in its continued commitment to answer calls on the Florida HIV/AIDS Hotline.  Funded through a contract with the Florida Department of Health Bureau of HIV/AIDS, the hotline serves as the statewide resource for HIV/AIDS-related information, community referrals and supportive telephone counseling.  Read more. 

100th Oil Spill Distress Call Answered

New Helpline Assists Floridians and Gulf Coast Residents

 

Last week, 2-1-1 Big Bend received its 100th call from Floridians who are stressed, angry and frustrated from the economic impact of the April 2010 oil spill.  The new Oil Spill Distress Helpline launched in October to help people with mental health issues related to the long term impact of the Oil Spill.  To date, only 35% of Florida claims have been paid, as families continue to face uncertainty for their holiday plans.  Click here to learn more.

 

Record Number of Vounteers Graduate 

Trained Volunteers Offer 10,000 Hours of Service Each Year

 

In November, 2-1-1 Big Bend had 32 volunteers successfully graduate from its four-month training program.  This is the highest number of graduates to complete training since we began tracking in 2002.  The next training begins January 2011.  Click here to learn more or register.

Networking Helps Increase Awareness of 2-1-1

2-1-1 staff members attended the Big Bend Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Philanthropy Day awards luncheon last month.  Several outstanding people were recognized for their generosity and excellent work to help others in our community.  Read More.

Helpline 2-1-1 counselors answered 2,036 calls in October and offered 2,867 referrals.  The top concerns of our callers were related to help with utilities and there was a 40% increase in number of mental health calls related to stress, depression and loneliness. Read on.  

About Us

2-1-1 Big Bend provides a 24 hour, free community hotline service called Helpline 2-1-1 offering individual, confidential counseling and human service information.  Information services and other specialized hotlines are also operated by the agency.
