In February we held our annual volunteer and staff appreciation celebration. It truly amazes me to see all the contributions our volunteers and staff make over the course of a year.
In 2010 more than 11,000 hours were donated by 100 volunteers - many of them on our hotlines. In addition, our board members helped us raise more than $30,000 and contributed their talents in many other ways. Overall, our staff assisted more than 40,000 callers and thousands of additional people through our directory and Internet services.
Since our agency began in 1970 we have helped over 1.5 million people, trained more than 3000 hotline counselors and collaborated with hundreds of organizations in our community. I am very proud of these achievements and look forward to another great year of serving our community in 2011.
2-1-1 Big Bend honored board members, staff and volunteers during its annual appreciation banquet Friday, Feb. 25 in Tallahassee. Many thanks to the 14 businesses that supported us with monetary and in-kind donations. They are recognized on our website.
Brandt Information Services was recognized at the event as the Title Sponsor of our upcoming fundraising event "Escape to the Jungle" on April 16, 2011. We appreciate our community partners and all of our staff and volunteers that make 2-1-1 Big Bend the safety net for our community.
Helpline 2-1-1 counselors answered 2,184 calls in January 2011 and offered 2,705 referrals. The top concern was help with tax assistance as part of our support of the United Way's BEST Project.
About Us 2-1-1 Big Bend provides Helpline 2-1-1, a 24/7 free community hotline service offering individual, confidential counseling and human service information. Information services and other specialized hotlines are also operated by the agency.
