Selichot 5773
Saturday, September 8
8:45 PM - Midnight
"Spiritual reflection and personal renewal"
Our evening begins with a communal gathering around refreshments and to watch together the powerful movie, " Of Gods and Men" hosted by Alan Block. As we enter the days of awe, we focus more intently on our spirituality. We wonder, perhaps, of what does spirituality consist and what our spirituality means in and to the world. Outside of the prayer services in which we engage, how do we manifest our spirituality, and how does this affect our core beliefs in our everyday choice making? In the story of the monks of Tibrihine, the film "Of Gods and Men" offers definition and portrait of a spirituality to which we aspire.
Following the film and discussion, we will transition to the liturgy of the Selichot service through the sounds of Max Bruch's "Kol Nidre" played by Darla Kashian. Our service will be led by Rabbi Morris Allen and chanted by Rabbi Amy Eilberg.

 Nativ Video
Over the past 8 years Beth Jacob has sent many students on gap year programs. The vast majority of these students, who take a year off before starting college, have gone to Israel. They have come to understand the complexities of Israel and the challenges that it faces in ways that most never have the opportunity to. Again, the vast majority of these kids have gone on Nativ (www.nativ.org). This is indeed an investment in a life worth making.
