Karen will conduct a high school workshop including planning for High School using a 4-year planning sheet, portfolios, ACT prep, Dual Enrollment, and a question and answer time. You'll be amazed at all the great information you'll receive!

Her daughter, Katie Johnson (Communications director for HLA) will conduct a class simultaneously for high school students (or rising high school students) on poetry, writing for college, ACT English prep, etc. She is an English graduate from Union University.

For the students, grades 8-12, Katie plans on doing the following:

Preparing to Write for College: outlines, thesis statement, topic statements, MLA format and proper citations, bibliography

Compare/contrast format will be demonstrated by a student-led debate

Motifs needed to write a rhetorical analysis

Introduction to different styles of poetry, and a silly poem contest

ACT English section prep

Games and other fun activities will be interspersed as well.
