To all parents with children in Grade 3 - 8:
We have an opportunity to participate in the 2010-2011 ACSI Math Olympics this year. Evangelical Christian School-Macon Campus (7600 Macon Road, Cordova, TN) is the host for the Math Olympics. The Math Olympics will take place on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011, beginning at 12 noon. The Math Olympics could run as late as 3:30 pm.
If your child is interested in participating, please email Karen Berry (keberry1@Bellsouth.net), our coordinator for the event, by Friday, March 11th. IMPORTANT: Please email Karen Berry with their NAME, GRADE, and choice of COMPUTATION or REASONING. We are needing a count as soon as possible. We are able to send six students per grade level: 3 students for Computation and 3 students for Reasoning. We could send a total of 36 children to represent our school at this exciting event.
Computation problems are arithmetic problems (+, -, x, /) whereas Reasoning problems are word problems utilizing arithmetic. The challenge will consist of four (4) timed tests. Each grade level will have a 1st-3rd place winner (ties included). The math problems are age appropriate for their grade levels. Sample tests will be sent out for those who sign up.
Karen Berry has volunteered to be the coordinator for this event and can answer any questions you may have. After you sign up she will send you sample tests and instructions on how to prepare. You can reach her at KeBerry1@Bellsouth.net or 753-3973. There will not be any practice sessions prior to the Olympics.
The cost for participation will be $13.00 per student. Checks can be made to Home Life Academy or you may use Paypal, by sending money to admin@homelifeacademy.com. Mark clearly in the notes what your payment is for. The deadline for payment is Monday, March 19th, 2011. When signing up, please make all attempts to come to the Math Olympics as the sponsoring school is making preparations based on the number of students who sign up. If I cannot find a replacement for your child, you will still be expected to pay the entrance fee.
