~ HIGH SCHOOL ADVANTAGE ~
News and More...

Greetings!

We hope and pray your year is continuing in good stride. We'd like to share a few things with you. We email this to all families regardless of grade levels so you can see just how committed we are to having the best high school program we possibly can!

NEW HIGH SCHOOL PAGES COMING SOON!

  1. We are about to completely redesign our high school pages this Spring, making them fuller and easier to navigate.
  2. We still have the high school workshop videos from the Fall 2010 and are still at work editing them. They will be added in as short clips making it easy to click on a certain topic and watch one of our awesome counselors explain in detail just what you need to know. So we're pretty exited. Stay tuned!

Look for these two changes in the next few weeks.

Please leave us some comments there; we love the feedback! Thanks!!

FASFA

Application

Question: What city should we use for filling out the high school portion of FAFSA? It would not recognize Homelife Academy in Memphis or Cordova?

Answer: You can just put the Memphis address. Since FAFSA is using a new list of approved schools that does not recognize umbrella schools, it doesn't matter which address you use. HSLDA had recommended that homeschoolers registered with umbrella schools just put "Homeschool" as the school so their application would not be delayed. However, if you do that, a menu opens up with questions about homeschoolers registered with the BOE that do not pertain to you. Most of our parents just put HLA, Memphis, and have already gotten back a response from FAFSA, so their applications are not being delayed.
The following is our official stance on Physical Science:

HomeLife Academy will accept Physical Science as an early credit (prior to 9th grade) and as a regular high school credit. However, we tell parents of college-bound kids only that the college of their choice MAY require or prefer 3 lab sciences OTHER THAN Physical Science. We are NOT saying "Do not take Physical Science," since it is a pre-requisite of Physics. But understand that the new requirements of some colleges include at least 3 lab sciences, including Biology, Chem. and Physics, or another lab science, such as Anatomy & Physiology. It is the PARENT'S responsibility to check with the college(s) and decide what to do with your high school student.

High School Evaluations:

If you have a Senior, an evaluation must be completed before a Graduation Packet can be requested. If you have not previously requested an evaluation for your senior, please do so before April 1. If an evaluation has been completed on your senior, please be certain all requested corrections have been made before a final transcript is sent and Graduation Packet is requested. Once final grades have been entered for your senior, you can then request a final transcript (if needed for your student's chosen college) and a Graduation Packet. Plan  2-3 weeks to receive the diploma.

If you have a junior, please request a senior evaluation when final grades have been entered for 11th grade.

If you currently have a 10th grader, request a 11th grade Evaluation after all 10th grade grades have been entered.
The $50 Senior fees must be paid prior to requesting the diploma. Evaluations and other requests may be made by logging into your Member Login account and clicking "Request Manager."

  MATH AND MORE:
  • NOTE: Please be aware that some colleges may be expecting students graduating 2013 and beyond to take math during all 4 years of high school even if Algbera 1 is taken early. Click here for details.
  • Do as much research concerning college admissions requirements as you can.
  • Some colleges may require Biology and above (3 lab sciences) for admissions.
  • Please check with the college concerning what science and math courses they require for admissions.
