Warm Coats for Wonderful Kids

With the help of Two Guys and a Truck, First Potomac Realty, and Burlington Coat Factory, last month Neediest Kids distributed 1,632 brand new winter coats to children who had nothing to keep them warm on the walk to school.

"Thank you. They are wonderful!" proclaimed our DC Public Schools Neediest Kids Coordinator, Mildred Washington.  She paused, then knowing how many children need warm coats asked, "When can we get more?"

Why Your Support Matters

From Fairfax County Social Work Services Coordinator, Amy Parmentier --

A fourth-grader, Marsha, was becoming quite a behavior problem at school.  She was inattentive and disruptive.  Then her teacher noticed Marsha squinting in class one day. When the teacher spoke with Marsha's mother, her mother was practically in tears as she said, "But we have no money for glasses."

Through the Neediest Kids Bridge to Success program, Marsha was able to go to Hour Eyes, get her eyes examined, and obtain new glasses.  Her teacher noticed an immediate and dramatic improvement in Marsha's behavior and said, "the trajectory of Marsha's life was changed because we gave her a pair of glasses."
