Staples StoreStaples for Students

Imagine trying to learn Algebra without a calculator or struggling to draw with dried up markers. More than one-third of the students in the DC Metro area lack the funds to obtain the supplies they need to succeed in school. But you can help these low-income students.

From July 3 to September 17, Staples is partnering with DoSomething.org to collect school supplies for Neediest Kids.

When you're doing your back-to-school shopping, please drop some new school supplies in the Staples for Students collection box in the store. You can also make a cash donation to the Staples for Students project which Neediest Kids will use to purchase additional school supplies.

Thank you to Staples for their outstanding support.

Why Your Support Matters

From a Middle School Counselor

Words cannot express how grateful I am to have had the Bridge to Success/Neediest Kids program as a resource this past school year.

While I had several students that were the recipients of eye glasses from Hour Eyes and Target gift cards, the student that stands out the most was a young lady that was transitioning from being homeless to foster care.  Due to her unstable home life, she had been transient and out of school for 6 months.  We were able to re-enroll the student, yet she was concerned about returning to school because her clothes had been thrown away following an eviction.  She literally had the clothes on her back and a few shirts she and her sister would share.

Thanks to the Bridge to Success/Neediest Kids program, I received vouchers from Target for my student and her sister. My student was able to purchase new clothes which made her feel comfortable returning to school.

She made great strides academically going from a .42 GPA first semester to a 2.14 by the end of the school year.  My student was promoted to high school, and I know this would not have been possible without the resources provided by the Bridge to Success/Neediest Kids program.

Thank you to the following people and corporations for holding a school supply drive for Neediest Kids:

  • Booz Allen Hamilton
  • MedImmune
  • Maddie Schiefer for her Bat Mitzvah service project

If you'd like to conduct a school supply drive, please email Amy Ginsburg  or call 703-377-0648.
