Matthew 6:19-21

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (New Revised Standard Version)

A teacher I've had in my life used to tell the story of how he read mystery novels. When he would get his new book, he would sit down in his comfy chair, turn his reading lamp on, and proceed to read the last chapter of the book. He would read how the story ended, figuring out the 'who done it' and only then would he turn back the pages beginning with chapter one, reading the entire book, from start to finish. As he told his story, he explained that whenever he had worry, uncertainty or confusion as he read the book from start to finish - he always knew how the story ended.

So it is with following in the footsteps of Jesus. So it is when we think what it means to 'live like you were dying.' The last chapter has been written by Jesus death on the cross and victory over the grave. This last chapter is your last chapter - Jesus has defeated the grave for you. You need not fear death. Now that you know this, go back to the first chapter and start writing your life. Whenever you face worry, uncertainty or confusion - remember that you know how the story ends! Life always has the last word!

As you anticipate eternity - may you be given great courage to embrace today - to it's fullest.

Prayer of the Week
Risen and Ever-living Lord Jesus, we praise and thank you for your sacrifice on the cross and glorious Easter victory for us. You came that we might have abundant new life here on earth and the promise of life with you forever in heaven. As we seek to "live like we were dying," fill us with your Living Spirit. Empower us to embrace today, anticipate eternity, and rearrange our priorities according to your priorities for our lives. We pray this in your precious name, Jesus. Amen.

Join a Small Group
Small Groups are encouraged to meet weekly throughout this series.   We are offering an opportunity for everyone to be involved in a small group by holding round table discussions at 9:45 and 11:00 each Sunday in both the Chapel and the Music Room and at 6:30 each Wednesday in the Family Life Center.  These sessions will be facilitated by Sheridan's pastoral staff.   If you have never been in a small group before this is an easy way to meet people in a non threatening way.   If you are interested in joining a small group that meets regularly at another time please contact Kathy Paisley at k.paisley@sheridanlutheran.org.
