Live Like You Were Dying
Daily Devotionals
Daily Devotional Tuesday, April 1
I Corinthians 1:18 and 25
"For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom and God's weakness is stronger than human strength." (New Revised Standard Version)

April Fool's Day. Have you been fooled today? Have you attempted to fool someone else? In I Corinthians, Paul writes that the world sees the cross as foolishness, but to those who place their trust in God - it is God's power revealed to us. As you seek to know God's love and to live God's love, many people will call you foolish. When I was entering seminary and preparing for ministry, I remember vaguely a comment I received when I spoke with someone about giving my life in service to the Church. "Why would you want to do that? You're never going to make it in the world. Besides you can't make any money doing that."

To the world, placing God first in our lives is foolishness. Some people just won't get it why we strive to place God first in our lives - because God has placed us first in his life. I've learned that when someone calls me foolish because I follow Jesus, I consider it faithful.

This April Fool's Day - be a fool for Christ. Dare to know him, to call him Lord and to trust that he will guide you.

Prayer of the Week
Risen and Ever-living Lord Jesus, we praise and thank you for your sacrifice on the cross and glorious Easter victory for us. You came that we might have abundant new life here on earth and the promise of life with you forever in heaven. As we seek to "live like we were dying," fill us with your Living Spirit. Empower us to embrace today, anticipate eternity, and rearrange our priorities according to your priorities for our lives. We pray this in your precious name, Jesus. Amen.

Small Groups are encouraged to meet weekly throughout this series.   We are offering an opportunity for everyone to be involved in a small group by holding round table discussions at 9:45 and 11:00 each Sunday in both the Chapel and the Music Room and at 6:30 each Wednesday in the Family Life Center.  These sessions will be facilitated by Sheridan's pastoral staff.   If you have never been in a small group before this is an easy way to meet people in a non threatening way.   If you are interested in joining a small group that meets regularly at another time please contact Kathy Paisley at k.paisley@sheridanlutheran.org.
