Aerial Yoga Event
Have you ever thought of catching air in a yoga practice? Patanjali talks about being able to soar in book 4 of the sutras. Well, aerial yoga may not be exactly what he was talking about, but it can come close!
Aerial yoga combines alignment, flow and therapy principles into one yoga class using acrobatic silks as props, deepening traditional pose execution and also lending a surprising playfulness to the practice.
Doors to the studio will open fifteen minutes before the event. We will start with a brief description of how to use the fabric and basic safety and then move on to a 90 minute practice, with time at the end dedicated to questions or comments.
We would love to see you there!
Presenter: Josh McGirk, E-RYT 500, has been teaching yoga since 2003 and teaching aerial for the past four years. He is the creator of Aerial Dance Over Denver's aerial yoga program and training manual. He received both his 200 and 500 hour trainings through YogaFit and is a Senior Master Trainer for the company. He believes laughter is vital to a successful yoga practice as we can never take ourselves too seriously. He adores collecting certificates, like BS biology and chemistry, nationally certified massage therapist, American Council on Exercise group fitness, black belt in Chinese Kung Fu, linguist and musician. Inquiries can be sent to jlmcgirk@gmail.com Location: Aerial Dance Over Denver is located at 8694 E. Hampden Ave, just east of Yosemite on Hampden.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Greetings Dear Sweet Yogis!
It was one of those rich Colorado yoga weekends for me. I had the pleasure of spending Saturday and Sunday at a Cancer Caregivers and Caregiving Symposium in Boulder. Rodney Yee and Coleen Saidman presented along with Boulder yogi Richard Freeman and his amazing wife Mary Taylor. Other presenters, included Zen priest Roshi Joan Halifax, Dr Jim Gordan, Dr Alenandro Chaoul, Dr Tony Black and Susan Bauer-Wu, PhD. It was amazing to hear from members of the medical community about the successes of yoga and meditation in treating cancer patients, and their caregivers. The medical community working together with the yoga community is so very, very powerful. The research speaks loudly about the many benefits of yoga and meditation in the treatment of cancer and other disease.
We have such an amazing Colorado yoga community, and so many amazing yogis here in Colorado. Speaking of amazing yogis, I am very pleased to announce that Swami Dharmanda will present to YTOC on Saturday May 19th, from 1:30 to 3:30 at Kosha Yoga in Littleton. Our 2011 survey results ranked Swami Dharmanda's presentation as one of the highest rated YTOC events held last year. We are very excited to have him present to us again so soon. This time his talk will be focused on the Yoga Sutra's, so mark your calendar for May 19th!
I am also very pleased to announce that we have formed "Team YTOC" for the Wellness Initiative's annual Yogathon Fundraiser, that will take place on Saturday, May 5th. Want to join "Team YTOC" and help us "Salute the sun to change lives-help bring yoga to thousands of low-income kids in Colorado schools"?
