YTOC Presents

Swami  Dharmananda

Many of us have heard about the Bhagavad Gita.  It is a unique chapter within the Mahabharata that is the quintessential guide for the Spiritual aspirant.  Mahatma Gandhi described the Gita by saying, "The Gīta has been a mother to me . . . .  I turn to it for guidance in every difficulty, and the desired guidance has always been forthcoming."

Swami Dharmananda, has also used it as a guide to his own life.  He has a unique way of sharing the his astute insights with his wit and wisdom.  In this special opportunity to hear the teachings of Swamiji, join us as he shares the heart of this classical text.  He will offer simple, yet dynamic insights that can create guidelines to deepening your Spiritual life and Sadhana practice.  If you have questions about the Bhagavad Gita, bring them along.  There will be opportunity for dialog.

 Presenter:

Swami Dharmananda is a preeminent scholar and teacher of the Science of Yoga, Hindu Philosophy, and Comparative Religion. As the Director of the International Vishwaguru Yoga and Meditation Institute (Rishikesh, India), he has given these teachings to students from all over the world for more than 25 years. He is the chief monastic disciple of the late Guru, Shri Vishwaguruji Maharaj. Swamiji's lectures - especially his mode of presentation with humor, stories and anecdotes - has earned him wide acclaim.

    President's Corner

With October behind me, I find myself living my yoga more than ever right now. I spent most of October moving my mom from Michigan to Colorado. Talk about change! I have only seen my parents once or twice a year since 1980 when I moved out of state. My dad passed away early last March and, after a failed attempt at selling last summer, we put the house back on  the market early this summer. A series of purchase offers were made and withdrawn for various reasons, but we finally sold the house my parents had lived in for ~26 years in late September.  It was lake property, in case any of you are wondering how we managed to sell a house in Michigan.

As we approach the season of Thanksgiving I want to give a really BIG THANKS to the YTOC Board of Directors that supported me during my moms move.  She is already calling her  new apartment "Home Sweet Home". I am so very grateful for this!  Although there are still many things to be done to complete her transition here I know we will tackle them all just as gracefully and quickly as possible. "Quickly" is certainly something that takes on a new meaning when mom is involved. I am getting lot's of daily chances to slow down, go inside, practice my breathing and body awareness.

This month I look forward to fully embracing my new role as President of YTOC. I am also looking forward to spending the first Thanksgiving in many years with my mom here in Colorado.

I am gratitude in action!

"True thankfulness is a state of being--a state created by my thoughts, words and actions. A word of kindness and support, a smile shared or a note of appreciation can positively influence those around me. My own life is improved as well.

If I look closely, I find so much to be thankful for. By developing the practice of recognizing my blessings, I become gratitude in action. I feel gratitude most deeply in prayer and meditation, giving thanks for the divine nature at the center of my being. This deep sense of gratitude changes me.

I am grateful for life, for the love of those around me, for the abundance that sustains me, and for the lessons life offers me. Grateful to God and thankful for others, I become thankfulness itself--I am gratitude in action!
Be thankful.--Colossians 3:15, "Daily Word Digital Magazine*

Hope to see many of you on November 12th for our event with Swami Dharmananda.

Yours in Service & Gratitude,
