MAY Event

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

as always, free to members!

Aerial Dance  Josh McGirk-aerial yoga

Ready to have fun?

To reclaim your inner child and play like you did when you were a youngster?

Then this is one workshop you don't want to miss.

Aerial yoga is a fusion of vinyasa yoga on the mat and aerial dance in fabric, in the air.

We start with gentle yoga warm ups, move through sun salutations, work on strength and stamina in standing and balance poses and then move these poses in silk fabric, with the option to fly like a kid on a playground.

This workshop is appropriate for any yoga level.  You only do what you feel comfortable doing.  You will be surprised at how easy it is and how much fun you will have.

We suggest wearing short or long sleeved shirts and yoga pants. Mats are not required as the floor is padded.

Free to members, guests $20

PresenterJosh McGirkJoshua McGirk has his E-500 RYT from YogaFit, is a nationally certified massage therapist, holds a BS in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Southern Colorado and is ACE Certified in Group Exercise. His yoga classes focus on the eight limbs of yoga, anatomy and humor to keep it all real

.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

"Do you have the patience to wait till your

mud settles and the water is clear? Can you

remain unmoving till right action arises by

   itself?"

                                    ~Lao-Tzu

                                     Tao-te Ching

I've been waiting days now for my mud to settle so that I might

weave coherent thoughts into this column.

It's amazing how many other tasks one can accomplish while waiting for right action (in respect to a particular task) to arise by itself.  No, it's not that I've been inactive. My Vata-aggravated self has kept very busy accomplishing much!

My garden greatly benefited from my inability to sit at my computer for more than five minutes; my house is a bit cleaner and my husband has delighted in my recent enthusiasm for creativity in the kitchen!

But, writing this month's President's article? It's been downright

 muddy!

Thank goodness for the teachings of yoga!

As yoga teachers, we encourage our students to be present with

whatever is arising in the moment, to listen compassionately to the subtle messages, to release expectations and all judgment toward self and others.

Isn't one of the greatest gifts we receive from our practice the

extension of that same compassionate presence in our daily lives~our true practice of yoga "off the mat"?

   It's muddy sometimes...

So, that's it for this month, folks!  No less, no more.

   And so it is.

   Namaste',

     Jeanne

About The Wellness Initiative

The Wellness Initiative (TWI) was founded in 2006 to deliver secular wellness programs to K-12 students in Colorado in response to persistent and growing problem of stress in young people's lives.

The Wellness Initiative's goal is to improve the physical health, social and emotional development, and academic performance of low-income youth through yoga-based wellness programs.

Using an evidence-based curriculum called Yoga Ed, the program was designed to map to and satisfy national physical education and health standards. Movements are integrated with breath to strengthen, align, and balance the body, focus the mind, and soothe the nervous system.
