YTOC October Event:  TRANSFORMING YOUR ASANA

This workshop is excellent for practitioners looking to further body awareness, instructors looking for inspiration, and anyone that has ever secretly wondered "what the heck is neutral spine and trans-what?!"
  • Immerse into a relationship with your core and neutral spine.
  • Learn how to find your neutral, and dive to the depth of your transversus abdominus.
  • Discuss the importance of these relationships in our personal practice and ways to introduce them into our teaching.
  • Finally, express the transformations with intention as we ride the wave through a strong fusion of Yoga and Pilates.

Presenter:  Meghan Stockdale is owner of the Soul Tree Yoga Studio in Lafayette, Colorado.  She is a devoted student and teacher of flow, forever in search of ways to ignite inspiration in those around her.  Discovering Yoga in 2000 after a spinal injury, Meghan became a self-taught student of Iyengar Yoga as a tool to grow and heal, but soon embraced the Yogini lifestyle whole-heartedly.  She studied at the Shoshoni Yoga Retreat, with many blissful instructors in Steamboat Springs and continues studies with Shannon Paige Schneider.  Now the creator and director of Soul Tree Studio, Meg looks forward to assisting your light into balance.

Soul Tree Yoga Studio is our hosting studio this month.

Located in the charming Old Town district in Lafayette, the studio offers a wide range of movement art classes to bring balance into your life.  This new and  beautiful studio includes a small shop with fabulous hanging lamps, beautiful clothes and more.  Practice space is private, cozy and roomy.

Take this opportunity to see one of our wonderful local yoga studios and to learn something new to enrich your practice and teaching.

  PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Ahhh...October in Colorado! I don't think it gets much better
 than this.

I'm writing this column just before heading up to Estes Park for
the 15th annual Yoga Journal Conference of the Rockies.  I'll
once again be participating in the WorkExchange program, which
is a great way to experience this amazing Colorado gathering of
yogins and wonderful variety of teachers while enjoying the
pristine beauty of autumn in the Rocky Mountains.

So, since I am consciously going to "unplug" for the next week
or so, I think I'll just share here a few of my favorite quotations
for this time of year.  Certainly these writers capture the
poignant essence of this turning of the cycle of nature far
more beautifully than any words I might offer.

Maybe you'll find something you'd like to offer to your students
 this month.

"All life requires a rhythm of rest. There is a rhythm in our
waking and in the body's need for sleep. There is a rhythm in
the way day dissolves into night, and night into morning. There
is a rhythm as the active growth of spring and summer is
quieted by the necessary dormancy of fall and winter...

But, in so many ways, our lives have lost this essential rhythm.
Our culture supposes that action and accomplishment are better
than rest; that doing something--anything--is somehow better
than doing nothing. And, because we do not rest, we lose our
  way.

A period of rest is not simply a biological convenience.  It is a
spiritual necessity.  We must have a period in which we lie fallow
  and restore our souls."
                                                  Wayne Muller,   Sabbath

" Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.  If it were
always a fist or always stretched open, you would be
      paralyzed."
                                                               Rumi

                      "this rhythm is not mine
it comes from all hearts beating
                       all things opening and closing...
it comes from the circling sun
and the swaying leaf that falls every autumn..

                       this rhythm is old
and as constant as our sure death
and as sure as the way morning appears
again and again on the horizon

nothing does not dance to this rhythm..."

                                                      John de Kadt

 In Celebration of the Turning,

 Jeanne

A WORD OF CAUTION:
INTERNET SCAMS ON YOGA TEACHERS
INCREASE SEEN IN NUMBER OF "Yoga Teacher Wanted" SCAMS

We just want to give you a "heads up" here: internet email messages, supposedly from someone from abroad seeking a yoga teacher to instruct several semi-private classes a week for several weeks for this individual and either family or coworkers,
are showing up in increasing numbers.

Have you received any such messages?

Be very careful if you choose to respond and explore. Often
these scams can ultimately involve "shady" payment arrangements which put you at great risk.

Just be careful out there in cyberspace!
