Yogi Amrit Desai: Growing as a Yoga Teacher and Quantum Breath Meditation
Join Yogi Amrit Desai for a special meeting with Yoga Teachers of Colorado
For more than fifty years Yogi Desai (Gurudev) has been teaching the most profound and spiritual aspects of yoga to teachers and individuals around the world. He continues to break new barriers in terms of discovering and sharing techniques that help people drop into the deepest states of relaxation and meditation.
Quantum Breath Meditation helps decrease stress-related health problems such as anxiety, depression, fatigue and insomnia. Such symptoms that appear on the surface are hidden in the unconscious.
Learn to treat the cause in the unconscious, and the symptoms will disappear. Treat only symptoms and the cause will reappear in the form of new symptoms.
Prana, the animating life force, is the link between the ego-mind and the spirit. When the wisdom of the pranic body is dominated by the ego-mind, the channel to the spirit is blocked.
The Amrit Method uses an ancient breath-work technique to instantly silence the mind, free up prana trapped in the shadow of unconsciousness and turn it to light in the third eye.
Gurudev (Yogi Amrit Desai) is an internationally recognized authority on yoga and holistic living. Yoga in the United States would not be as prolific as it is today without his contributions.
Since 1968 hundreds of thousands of people around the world have learned to teach and practice yoga, meditation and spiritual development as a result of Yogi Desai's teachings.
Yogi Desai is responsible for bringing Swami Kripalvanandji to the United States from India, and founding the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the largest of its kind in the world.
Yogi Desai continues to teach the most profound and spiritual aspects of yoga for personal and global transformation.
Presentation to YTOC He has most graciously agreed to present to our YTOC membership on Thursday evening, September 2nd, at Harmony Yoga in Denver. From 6:30-8:30p, Yogi Desai will provide experiential teaching on the Quantum Breath Meditation technique to all attendees.
Then from 8:30-9:00p, the program will be open ONLY to YTOC members as Gurudev shares some of his own experiences regarding how one can continually grow and evolve as a yoga teacher.

TWO NEW YOGA STUDIOS OPENING IN SEPTEMBER
Asana Yoga Studio, Arvada ~*~*~*~* Kosha Yoga--Littleton
| Asana Yoga Studio, ArvadaSusan Merrill has owned
Asana Studio in Golden for eight years. As time went by, she envisioned that the perfect yoga studio would feel
like: a home, on a tree-lined street, surrounded by gardens. It would include places to sit and have tea
after class with new friends. There
would be crowds of children, moms, dads, babies, old, and young. The studio would have
high ceilings with natural lighting using lots of windows and sky lights. The atmosphere would be happy, easy,
nurturing. And all this would be a short
walking distance into town.
Susan found just the perfect place in Olde Town
Arvada and has materialized her vision. Opening August 18, 2010, there will be classes in meditation, vinyasa,
pre-natal, alighment, hips and shoulders, and gentle yoga Children's yoga will
have special emphasis with the availability of a second room. Children's classes will be offered in
conjunction with the adult classes. The
disabled and wheelchair-bound will find classes specifically designed to meet
their needs. There are also two more
rooms for massages and other treatments.
Susan feels like her
realized vision of an ideal yoga studio is her gift to the community. The old bungalow at the corner of 57th
and Yukon has been the perfect place to reclaim and build something wonderful. Asana Yoga Studio in Olde Town Arvada5701 Yukon, Arvada 80002303-437-6666e-mail: susan@asanastudio.comwebsite: www.asanastudio.com~*~*~*~*
Kosha Yoga--LittletonDespite firm resistance to opening a yoga studio because of
the intense amount of time and work involved, Carrie Searles has finally
relented. After teaching yoga since
1995, she began to notice that there was a strong imbalance in the local
community offerings of yoga. Hot yoga,
power yoga, and vinyasa yoga all had a strong voice and presence. Yet there was a distinct shortage of studios
offering a gentle, classical hatha yoga approach, her kind of yoga.
Carrie decided that she was the change that needed to be
made to resolve the situation. Taking
two years off from teaching yoga, she got her MBA from Denver University. Upon graduation, Carrie immediately went to
work designing Kosha Yoga Studio in Littleton. Carrie relates, "The main philosophy at Kosha Yoga is to
create a supportive and save environment for our Self-discovery; cultivating
and nurturing peace through our practice."
This will be a studio for teachers to learn and find
community. The upcoming continuing education workshops include asana and
alignment, yoga philosophy, pranayama and meditation classes (taught in the
style of Baba Hari Das at Mount Madonna), yoga nidra,
and Sanskrit. There will be Ayurvedic
cook Amadea Morningstar (who wrote Ayurvedic
Cooking and Ayurveda for Westerners) early next
year.
Kosha has two rooms offering basic massage treatments. In the near future, ayurevedic treatments
such as abhyanga, shirodhara and swedhana will be available. A structural yoga
therapist is on staff who is also an RN, for anyone needing something more than
just PT. Starting September 6th
Tom Fuhrmann and the Littleton Kirtan Gang will perform kirtan every Thursday night at 7:30 pm.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER | | | Greetings!
I've been giving some thought to creativity lately--the ebb and
flow of my own as well as the inspiring evidence of the creative
energies flowing from and through this wonderful community of
Colorado yogins! You all are doing some amazingly good stuff
out there!
As the kids head back to school and parents breathe a
quiet sigh of relief, we know that our yoga classes will
once again see that Fall influx of students--students
readily anticipating being inspired by us, their yoga instruc-
tors.
What do you draw YOUR inspiration from? What inspires YOU to
show up, re-energized, so that you might offer your
very best to your students? What inspires your creativity?
"inspire"(Latin): to breathe; to exert an animating,
enlivening influence upon
What a rich opportunity we have this month to hear Yogi Amrit
Desai speak to just this question. What keeps you going as a
teacher? How do you sustain the passion and the inspiration?
Be sure to join us September 2nd for this inspirational event.
Keep tapping into that which sources you--that which inspires
both your own practice and the classes you teach.
"What would it be like if you lived each day,
each breath, as a work of art in progress?
Imagine that you are a masterpiece unfolding--
every second of every day--a work of art taking
form with every breath."
--Thomas Crum
May your creative juices flow...
In Spirit,
Jeanne

YTOC August Event Recap

Check out the Red Lentil Curry recipe
YTOC's August social event at the
beautiful home of member at large Debi Tepper included a viewing of the movie "Yoga
Unveiled" and a wonderful vegetarian potluck feast.
"Yoga
Unveiled" is a really must see movie for any western yoga
teacher. It includes informative footage on the origins and history of yoga,
and interviews with many world renowned yoga teachers and scholars that have
been instrumental in the growth of yoga in the west.
The potluck feast included
many wonderful dishes. A few of the members who attended asked me to share my
red lentil curry recipe, so here it is. Enjoy! ~Shari Turney RED LENTIL CURRY
INGREDIENTS 2 cups red lentils 1 large onion, diced 1
tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon ground tumeric 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon
chili powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar fresh garlic (3 small cloves)
pressed thru a garlic
press or finely minced fresh ginger root (~ 1 teaspoon)
pressed thru a garlic press or finely minced 2 good sized handfuls of chopped
fresh curry leaves - available at Indian stores 1 or 2 medium tomatoes chopped (or a
14.25 oz can of tomato
puree) DIRECTIONS Wash lentils in cold water until the
water runs clear. Put the lentils in a pot and cover with water. Simmer until
tender, but not mushy. 20 to 25 minutes. While the lentils are cooking. In a
large skillet or dutch
oven caramelize the onion in olive oil. While the onions cook combine all
the spices, garlic, ginger & curry and mix well. When the onions are
cooked, add the spice mix to the pan. Cook on high stirring constantly for 1 to
2 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes and reduce
heat. Cook for 3 or 4 minutes. Drain lentils and add to the pan and
serve. This dish is great served on top of
bed of rice, and garnished with chopped fresh cilantro and/or plain yogurt.
