PRESIDENT'S CORNER: A Gentle Cosmic Reminder
Dear Members and Friends,

A few days ago, I stopped at our neighborhood grocery store for a few items.

The parking lot was a zoo and I decided to park on the street. How fortunate that there was a space right around the corner from the store!

Making sure that my car cleared the "No Parking Beyond this Point" sign, I ran in and was back in less than 10 minutes, only to find a ticket gracing my windshield.  Experiencing that rush of denial, aggravation and an incredulous, "How can this BE?", I looked more closely to find the OTHER sign: "No parking Tuesdays--Street Maintenance".  No excuses...I had blown it!

Very quickly, I found myself shaking my head and laughing--laughing at
myself as I pictured the diligent parking officer reading the decal in my car's back window: "Be Present".  Yeah.  It probably made that guy's day!  "Not too present, this one..." as the hefty fine was officially checked off and the official little form slid beneath my windshield wiper.

Right.

Not too present.

Graciously, the Universe only gave me a gentle tap on the shoulder this time.  It could have been a far stronger reminder to practice what I teach (and I'm sure it would have been, next time, had I not paid attention this time around).

How easily we get caught up in the busyness, the small tasks that fill our
days. I am so very grateful when something like this little incident comes along to wake me up again.  And, as I witnessed how quickly I was able to shift from my anger and frustration to being able to join in the Great Cosmic Chuckle, I realized once again the gift of yoga in my life: the invitation to be present, to witness what IS and to find the lesson offered that will grow me.

"BE PRESENT":  Indeed.

I taped that little decal on my car's back window years ago for ME to see when I looked in my rear view mirror --hoping that, incidentally, it might be a reminder for those driving behind me.

I'll be paying more attention to its message again.

Thanks, Universe!

           "Caretake this moment.
            Immerse yourself in its particulars.
Respond to this person, this challenge, this deed.
Quit the evasions.  Stop giving yourself needless trouble.
It is time to really live; to fully inhabit the situation
you happen to be in now."
                                                       --EPICTETUS

"Life arises moment to moment, and that is the truest way to   live it.  Respond to each moment as an invitation from Life to you.  Let go of the need to control, to choose, to understand.  Embrace your moments fully.  Be alive.  This is it!"

May YOU "walk on the green earth, in the present moment" and may you notice those signs along the way--all of them!

Have a great August and I hope to see you on the 21st for our summer potluck and viewing of "Yoga Unveiled".

Namaste',
Jeanne
