 A Summer Solstice Meditation
|
|
|
As the seasons change, so does our energetic awareness. With the longer days and warmer weather, we may find ourselves running playfully about. But there is much to be gained by observing and honoring the dynamics of stillness at this time. Our session will include simple sitting awareness, group discussion, light postural practice, and a 30-minute guided meditation to honor the flow of life force energy and the season of summer.
Join us to explore the meaning of meditation in your life while learning basic techniques to increase inner awareness while stimulating your whole self. You'll enjoy the overall sense of well-being that comes with tapping into a pure summer stream of energetic possibility.
Our presenter Roseanna Frechette: Roseanna's classes, workshops, and presentations are infused with a dynamic and spirited vitality. Interpretive dancer and performance poet as well as yogi, she has a way of blending classic beauty of yoga practice with contemporary understanding of the need for personal meaning. Having taught hatha yoga and meditation to all segments of Denver's general population for over 15 years, Roseanna enjoys sharing accessible teachings that she has both learned from a good many masterful teachers and discovered through practice itself. She is longtime Yoga Director for Oxford Club, founder of Inner City Yoga, and past Vice President of Programs for Yoga Teachers of Colorado.

Oxford Hotel Club and Spa
The Oxford Club Spa & Salon
has been in the business of health and wellness for over 22 years,
offering an ideal urban escape for men and women seeking relaxation and
renewal.
Inside an elegant Victorian building built in 1912 that exudes
a chic, urban atmosphere is a membership fitness center and full
service spa and salon that is open to the public.
The spa and salon,
the first in Denver, opened its doors in 1987 after award-winning
preservationist and visionary Dana Crawford saw a need for an urban
sanctuary. The environment is designed to allow guests to step away
from the daily pace and into a refuge that refreshes the mind, body and
spirit.

YTOC thanks The Oxford Club Spa for sponsoring and hosting our June event. |

| RCLE HEADLINE | | | President's Corner: Perfect Imperfection
This past month, I've been bringing the ancient Japanese concept of "wabi-sabi" into my life. For those of you not familiar with this term, wabi-sabi refers to a deep cultural thread that emerged in Japan in the 15th century as a reaction to the prevailing aesthetic of lavishness and ornamentation. Wabi-sabi is the art of finding beauty in simplicity and imperfection. Wabi-sabi understands the cracks and crevices that mark the passage of time and celebrates the transience and fragile beauty of all things (especially those that appear "imperfect" to our oft judmental perceptions) as part of nature's cycle of life.
I'm getting better at embracing my "perfect imperfections": on this day, my garden has weeds, my body is telling me to slow down, my classes have shrunk with summer's onset and my energy level has shifted into something resembling a conscious idle. Things that in years past would have frustrated me greatly and made me feel like I somehow needed to "fix the problem" now beckon me to step back, take a deep breath, shift from doing into being, from perfecting into appreciating. I apply wabi-sabi's gentle acceptance to what is, this day, remembering my practice of santosha as I find contentment with my life and all its perfect flaws.
Each month, my intention is to offer you a thought, a quotation, an idea that you might be able to use in a class at sometime in the future. Here is a poem, called "Shine", by Em Claire I'd like to share with you:
Life says for me to tell you this:
nothing needs fixing;
everything desires
a Celebration.
You were made to bend
so that you would find
all the many miracles at your feet.
You were made to stretch
so that you would discover
your own beautiful face of Heaven
just above
all that you think you must shoulder.
When I appeal to God to speak to me
I'm feeling just as small and alone as you might be.
But this is when, for no particular reason at all,
I begin to
shine.
Honoring our Perfect Imperfections...
Namaste',
Jeanne
