Aerial Yoga
May YTOC Event
Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga takes a flowing, vinyasa-style class and adds an anti-gravity component to it. We start with basic folds, backbends, twists and salutations and then move to standing poses using the fabric to build upper body strength. From here, we explore foot and hand wraps to lift the body into the air. Then we use the fabric as a prop for inversions and settle into restorative poses to end the 90-minute experience.

Aerial yoga is a great way to build confidence in supported inversions without weight on the cervical vertebra, and have a fantastic time in the process. It's like revisiting the playground: a time to reconnect with our inner child.

Our presenter:  Martial artist, coffee house barista, organic chemist, gourmet chocolatier, cellular biologist, botanist, massage therapist, yoga instructor and national presenter all in one, you ask? It can be done! Josh McGirk has been practicing some sort of mind body activity since 1983, starting in Kung Fu, and has been teaching yoga around the country since 2003. He started aerial yoga at Aerial Dance Over Denver (ADOD) mid-2008. Currently he teaches at the Colorado Athletic Clubs (CACs), and ADOD with Michelle McGlone and Nadja Tizer. He also runs a massage therapy business in Park Hill, as well as trains for YogaFit and is the BTS lead for the five CACs in Denver.

                        The Things We Said Today
"Someday, when we're dreaming,
Deep in love, not a lot to say,
Then we will remember
The things we said today."

So, you know how it is when a song just keeps playing in your head and you're not sure why? Well, this catchy little Beatles' refrain has been repeating itself in mine, like a powerful mantra, for a few days now.  I'm pretty sure there's a message I'm meant to hear, here.

I hope many of you were able to attend a night of kirtan with Deva Premal, Miten and Krishna Das last month. Once again, entrained in repetition of the sacred mantras, I felt myself awash in the absolute energy that became palpable as we chanted, over and
over, words ancient and new--reverberations that continued to resonate within every cell of my being long after Sound became Silence. Sounds so authentic that what they are and what they mean are one in the same.  Sacred names that awaken primordial memory of pure Love.

So, what are the sounds, the words you've said today?
If words, indeed, have creative power--if what you say lives on as experience, feeling and remembrance--will the reverberation and resonance of your words be the gifts you wanted to offer? No apologies, no regrets?

As teachers, the sharing of our words and thoughts with our students places upon us a deep responsibility to speak in a way that is true and loving and wise.  The 20th century humorist Will Rogers counseled folks to choose their words so wisely that they'd "...not be afraid to sell their parrot to the town gossip."

Food for thought.

In the Spirit of One,
 Jeanne
