Sometimes ..

Dear YTOC Members,

Sometimes changes happen rather quickly. Rebecca Stark has stepped down from her position as YTOC President.  She was recently promoted and her new duties will not allow her the necessary time required to fulfill her role as YTOC President.  So, please join me in welcoming Jeanne Thornton as our new YTOC President.  She is well known to several board members and has been a long time YTOC member. Jeanne was elected by unanimous vote at the December board meeting.  Please see our new President's message below.
Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes...

It is with great pleasure and privilege that I step into the position of President of the YTOC Board as Rebecca transitions. My sincere thanks to the Board for their vote of confidence in me.

Your 2010-2011 Board consists of five new faces (mine, included) as well as several dedicated members lovingly agreeing to continue their service to our membership.  I am
so very excited to begin and look forward to bring the new board together very soon.

YTOC is YOUR statewide professional yoga teachers association.  It is here to offer you support, continuing education, an opportunity to connect with other yoga teachers and to provide you with a means by which to better market your yoga and inform your community about who you are and what you offer.

But, I believe that YTOC can be even more and that the possibilities are endless.  Together, let us commit to looking with fresh eyes at what this organization can and should be.  If you have ideas about how YTOC can improve serving you and your community, we want to hear them!  This is more than an invitation-it's a most sincere request.  We need your input!  You can contact me at yogaoasis@earthlink.net

As we begin this New Year, I pledge my intention to each of you to offer a new perspective, to ask a lot of questions, to listen to what you have to say and always to be open and responsive to your communications.  Together, let's explore and embrace YTOC's potential to be an even greater dynamic presence, not only extending our efforts into more regions of Colorado, but mindfully offering the spirit and essence of Yoga to more and more individuals in our communities, especially those who otherwise would never have that opportunity.

Wishing each and every one of you a blessed holiday season and a New Year filled with peace, love, laughter and deep fulfillment.

In Spirit,

Jeanne
YTOC Event:  January 10th

Thai Yoga Massage

Brian Cook & Michelle Bressette

Thai Yoga

Event: Thai Yoga Message
When: Sunday, January 10th, 2-5 PM
Location: Reishi Crossing
2730 South Wadsworth Blvd, Denver, 80227, 303-984-8444
Investment: Free to YTOC members, $20 for non-members

Just as Yoga has become overwhelmingly popular in the west, Thai Massage is being recognized as a powerful healing modality as well. As we explore both Yoga and Thai bodywork, we can't help but discover how similar these powerful techniques are to each other. It is important, then that we explore the importance of alignment, touch, body mechanics, and breath when we move in these practices.

In this Thai Yoga Massage Workshop, Brian and Michelle will introduce the basics of Nuad Boran, or Traditional Thai Bodywork. They will cover the basic sequence of a Thai session, as well as give insights with regard to breathing practices, and the various techniques you can expect to experience during a Thai Massage session. These include compression techniques (using palms, knees, elbows) thumbing, and stretching. An introduction to the Thai energy system (or Sen Sip) as well as a brief history will also be covered.

Through compression, stretching and line work, we become invigorated and energized, fostering a feeling of wellness and balance. As teachers, we learn how to approach our clients and students with compassion, and as practitioners we can apply this information to our practice every day, and approach our bodies with metta, or Loving Kindness.

Brain Cook, LMT

As a 1989 graduate of the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy Brian Cook began a massage practice utilizing techniques common to Swedish Massage, Shiatsu, Yoga and Polarity. Further studies included Sports Massage, "Trager-work," Reflexology, Japanese Hot Stone Massage and Traditional Thai Yoga-Massage. His studies of bodywork modalities and yoga are on-going.

Brian is also a free-lance classical musician, performing viola with Central City Opera. As a graduate of the Cook Street School of Fine Cooking, he teaches cooking and cooks for small events as a private chef.

Michelle Bressette

Michelle Bressette has been a certified Integral Yoga instructor since 1998, and been actively employed in the Health Food Industry since 1995.  She has continued her studies to include Reiki, Synchronicity Meditation, Taekwondo, and other various yoga styles. She began her Thai Bodywork training in 2008 with Chuck Duff, founder of Thai Bodywork, and continues to expand her knowledge and training to include clinical, therapeutic Thai Bodywork. Michelle strongly believes that through balancing the physical body and living a holistic lifestyle, you can experience deeper emotional and spiritual fulfillment.

YTOC Library

Did you know that YTOC has a library, and that we have many great items for you to check out?  If you are a YTOC member and wish to borrow any library item, e-mail Susan Merrill at asanasue@yahoo.com, or make arrangements at one of our meetings.

YTOC now has most of the Back Issues of Yoga Journal from 1990-2001!

We can share back issues with you. For example, maybe you want an in-depth analysis of an asana or a style of yoga you are researching. We can help you locate that issue. You can use this service just as you use the library for renting out video and audio tapes. Please go to the library page of the YTOC website (www.ytoc.org) for a listing of our library materials.
