One Mat ... one child

Dear YTOC Members,

Most of us have a memory of starting Yoga practice by unrolling our mats.. and then one breath at a time connecting with our body, our mind.  Our mats become like trusted companions on our journey...

This December YTOC is pleased to help Learning Landscapes by helping collect new or gently used yoga mats during our December 5th YTOC event. Learning Landscapes focuses on building community health and wellness in Westwood, a low income, high risk neighborhood here in Denver. They partner with schools to help build sustainable, community health efforts such as exercise and nutrition classes for adults and children. Knapp Elementary is one these schools. This coming Spring, Knapp hopes to have yoga classes for teachers and community members as part of a mini grant they received.

At our December 5th event a box will be on hand to collect new or gently used yoga mats in support of Learning Landscapes and their efforts.  Visit Learning Landscapes for more information.  See you at the December 5th event and bring a mat to donate :)
YTOC Event:  December 5th 2-4 pm
Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra
with Kerry Escobado & Karin Bustamante

Trees in Forest

Event: Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra
When: Saturday, December 5th 2-4 PM
Location: Green Mountain Yoga
8566 Five Parks Drive Arvada, Colorado, 80005
(303) 421-4131
Fee: Free to YTOC members, $20 for non-members

Restorative Yoga creates a deep state of relaxation safely using props. Prepare to slow down to heal & nurture the body & mind. Nourish the body as we practice most of the poses on the floor while being mindful of our thoughts and emotions. Experience a kind of peaceful serenity that leaves you with less negative emotions, less tension, and with more compassion and grace.  We will end the practice with Yoga Nidra.

Yoga Nidra is practiced in a supported position resting on the floor or seated.  Props help to support the body physically to allow deep relaxation to occur.  What is Yoga Nidra? Yoga Nidra is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating tantric practice that helps calm the mind. You are in a state of "conscious sleep".   You may choose to explore Yoga Nidra for many reasons: deep relaxation, elimination of stress, solving personal problems, resolving or neutralizing trauma, entering deep meditation or assistance in unraveling such questions as Who Am I? Yoga Nidra  in essence is a practice of self inquiry derived from ancient yoga teachings.

Please bring your yoga props to the workshop. The hosting studio, Green Mountain will provide props as they are available. But, one can never have too many props while in a restorative yoga pose!

YTOC Library

Did you know that YTOC has a library, and that we have many great items for you to check out?  If you are a YTOC member and wish to borrow any library item, e-mail Susan Merrill at asanasue@yahoo.com, or make arrangements at one of our meetings.

YTOC now has most of the Back Issues of Yoga Journal from 1990-2001!

We can share back issues with you. For example, maybe you want an in-depth analysis of an asana or a style of yoga you are researching. We can help you locate that issue. You can use this service just as you use the library for renting out video and audio tapes. Please go to the library page of the YTOC website (www.ytoc.org) for a listing of our library materials.
