October Message from New President of YTOC ...
|
|
Dear YTOC Members,
It's amazing what happens when we just show up. Seventeen years ago, when my friend Dot Dulaney invited me to a yoga class taught out of her home, I showed up--and I fell in love with yoga. I continued my practice through a move to Minneapolis and after a number of years with one teacher, I showed up to teach my first class. My instructor at the time guided me into teaching, telling me to lean on my own experience with yoga. Thus teaching yoga became another remarkable opportunity to show up, and let my yoga practice teach a new generation.
Showing up also lends great support to relationships with friends, family, and employers. Some days, the best I could do was show up. Along the path of life, I fell in love with service opportunities. It was my love of service that led me to "apply" for the position of Membership Manager with YTOC. I'd moved back to the Denver area after a tour of the northern Front Range (and an eastern jaunt to Fort Morgan), and felt the tug of yoga. I scheduled myself to teach cameo appearances at a few special events--I took a few years off teaching yoga while I completed a Master's Degree in Anatomy & Neurobiology. Following the tug of yoga, I found the YTOC website and noted the open position of the Membership Manager.
Once again, I showed up--first meeting with the previous Membership Manager, Karyn Karlson, then meeting with the YTOC board. I was accepted as the new Membership Manager and I continued to show up. I credit this consistency with my nomination to president, a position I am humbly honored to fill.
Now we need a few of you to "show up." We are looking for some new faces on the YTOC board--a Membership Manager to take my place, a Secretary, and a Member-at-large. If you've visited our website, read the newsletters, and felt a tug to join us, we invite you to do so! We'd especially love to have a few members from outside of the Denver metro area to join in the board. Think it over, ask if the tug has pulled on your heart, and let us know!
Yours in service,
Rebecca Stark YTOC President and Membership Manage

YTOC December Event

Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra with Kerry Escobado & Karin Bustamante
Event: Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra When: Saturday, December 5th 2-4 PM Location: Green Mountain Yoga 8566 Five Parks Drive Arvada, Colorado, 80005 (303) 421-4131 Fee: Free to YTOC members, $20 for non-members
Restorative Yoga creates a deep state of relaxation safely using props. Prepare to slow
down to heal & nurture the body & mind. Nourish the body as we
practice most of the poses on the floor while being mindful of our
thoughts and emotions. Experience a kind of peaceful serenity that
leaves you with less negative emotions, less tension, and with more
compassion and grace. We will end the practice with Yoga Nidra.
Yoga Nidra is practiced in a supported position resting on the floor or seated. Props
help to support the body physically to allow deep relaxation to occur. What is Yoga Nidra? Yoga Nidra is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating tantric practice that helps calm the mind. You are in a state of "conscious sleep". You may choose to explore Yoga Nidra for many reasons: deep relaxation, elimination of stress, solving personal problems, resolving or neutralizing trauma, entering deep meditation or assistance in unraveling such questions as Who Am I? Yoga Nidra in essence is a practice of self inquiry derived from ancient yoga teachings.
Please bring your yoga props to the workshop. The hosting studio, Green Mountain Yoga, will provide props as they are available. But, one can never have too many props while in a restorative yoga pose!
