Greetings!
|
With summer coming to a close, things are starting to get very busy here at the United Way St. Croix Valley office. Our fall 2012 Campaign is officially launching September 17 and will run through November 16. We know school is just around the corner as well, so we wanted to feature Hudson School District's Angel Fund as our Agency Spotlight of the month. You can read about that and more in this month's newsletter. Thanks for taking the time to read our latest news during this busy fall season! We appreciate your support.

United Way and UW Extension Provide Nutrition Education
|
UW Extension Nutrition Educators Jessica Sprain (left) and Sarah Johnson are shown at the Five Loaves Food and Clothing Center in New Richmond. They provided pantry users with a sample of salmon patties and veggie salad and taught them how to plan meals using the MyPlate logo from USDA. The lesson and samples were also given at the River Falls Food Pantry. A grant from Allina to United Way St. Croix Valley allowed families at both pantries to take home the groceries needed to complete the meal.
Look out for a feature article on the UW Extension project and MyPlate in the upcoming issue of Family First.

The Hudson School District provides an Angel Fund in each of the district's eight schools. Angel Funds are used by the school principals, in cooperation with staff, to provide students in need with emergency clothing, school supplies and/or to cover expenses associated with school activities. The $3,000 donation the schools received this year is based on a percentage of the total United Way St. Croix Valley contribution made by Hudson School District employees during the 2011-12 fundraising campaign. In 2011, the Hudson School District was recognized as a United Way Corporate Leader for increasing the number of employee participants and donations. Even though Andersen Corporation is already one of United Way St. Croix Valley's top campaigns, it still continues to grow its support. In the company's 2011 United Way campaign, Andersen employees and the company's corporate match totaled more than $146,000, bettering last year's total by $10,000.
"Andersen Corporation employees consistently show that they generously care for their communities and the company is an outstanding example of a socially responsible corporation," said United Way St. Croix Valley Executive Director John Coughlin. "We are extremely grateful for their support," he continued.
Andersen was founded in 1903 in Hudson, Wisconsin, and is now an international company employing more than 9,000 people at more than 20 locations and manufacturing more than six million windows and doors per year. Its headquarters are in Bayport, Minnesota.
