"Funding is going to support important programs and services in Pierce, Polk and St. Croix Counties," he continued.

In addition to providing funds to nonprofit agencies, United Way continues to focus on its three core initiatives: United Way's Food Resource Center, Success By 6 and Shelter for All. St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity is one of 1600 affiliates of Habitat for Humanity, International, and is committed to eliminating poverty in Pierce and St. Croix Counties, WI. Since its inception in 1996, SCVHFH has built nearly 50 homes, and helped ensure that nearly 200 adults and children have found the comfort, security and equity that accompanies homeownership.

Not a hand out, but a hand up, SCVHFH seeks to empower its homebuyers, reducing the barriers that have left them out of the housing market by requiring "Sweat Equity" volunteer hours in lieu of a down payment, and ensuring low monthly mortgage payments through generous building materials donations and the utilization of volunteer labor.
