Greetings!

Hello and welcome to our October e-newsletter! Right now our fall campaign is in full swing with fun events and fundraisers going on all around the St. Croix Valley. For example, earlier this month we completed our children's book drive in Polk County, and we are now running our Pierce and St. Croix County drive. Read about that and what else is going on with UWSCV below! Thank you for your support!

story1United Way Invites Community to Join in Book Drive

United Way St. Croix Valley launched a Children's Book Drive Oct. 17, running through Nov. 18. Donations of new and gently-used books for children ages birth to age six are requested. United Way St. Croix Valley will distribute the books to families in need throughout St. Croix and Pierce counties. United Way St. Croix Valley ran its Polk County book drive in September and October.

"One of the things research shows is the importance of reading to your children at an early age. In support of this, United Way St. Croix Valley is collecting new and gently used books for distribution through local food pantries, WIC, parent educator home visits, and other avenues as appropriate," said John Coughlin, United Way St. Croix Valley Executive Director.

"The time parents spend in simple interaction with their children, as happens when parents read to them, is incredibly important in a child's development. We invite the community to join in our efforts," he said.

The following locations are drop sites for the United Way Book Drive:

Allina Hospitals & Clinics recently contributed $2,500 to sponsor a truckload of food for the United Way St. Croix Valley's Food Resource Center. Allina staff also volunteered to help distribute the food to local pantries on Tuesday, October 4. "We know food insecurity is a real problem right now, and this is a great way for us to support food shelves throughout Western Wisconsin," explained David Miller, president of River Falls Area Hospital. "The United Way is able to turn our $2,500 contribution into about $10,000 worth of food, which they then distribute throughout the region."
