From the Executive Director
 | | Dave Feldman | Thanksgiving is upon us.
The origins of this holiday, drawn from both European and Native American traditions, are based on gratitude of a good harvest season and rejoicing together with the rest of the community.
We take the spirit of this message to heart.
As we wrap up a full and productive year -- actually our fourth -- it is time to reflect. And it is time to look ahead.
Our recently produced Mission Report does both, summarizing our accomplishments since launching in January 2008 and looking forward to a greener future. We thank all those who have supported the reduction of our environmental footprint because it is truly a partnership of many.
In 2012, we will continue offering successful programs that educate and inspire action like Green Home Expo, Greening Condos and Solar Bethesda. We will expand both our business incubation program and education center. We are also planning new programs and events to expand our reach and have an even greater impact.
When we launched, we asked for your suggestions, your time and your financial support. It is again time to make this request. We welcome your ideas and would appreciate hearing from you. And of course your involvement in our mission is always welcomed.
As you know, we are a non-profit organization and cannot do what we do without financial support. We have a proven track record of success and with your help, we can build on our programs, launch new initiatives and accomplish even more. Will you consider supporting us with an end-of-year donation? You can mail us a check or click here to make a secure donation online.
Please join us in celebrating a successful season of growth and harvesting. Thank you all for believing in our mission and giving generously.

 Incubator Spotlight E-Car Solutions
by Dana Burton It is common advice for job-hunters to combine their vocation with a passion, but that takes planning and risk. One must know the road. Mark Jones knows the road. A self-confessed "gear head," Mark - along with his partner and wife, Barbara - lives his passion in E-Car Solutions (www.ecar-solutions.com) of Bethesda. E-Car provides turnkey electric car charging stations to municipal and commercial real estate concerns. The Joneses see the electric car market as they view the cellular phone market; before the infrastructure existed, cell phones were not commonly used. However, upon the input of the towers and once signals reached critical urban areas in America, the phones became tools instead of being curious fashion toys. More >> |

Green Entertaining Tips for the Holidays
Excerpts from an article by Lori Hill:
- Opt for Dishware Over Disposables -- When serving food, I urge my clients to use glassware, silverware and dishware instead of disposables since you can reuse them over and over again.
- Use Soy or Beeswax Candles --Traditional candles are
made with paraffin, a petroleum byproduct, which burns dirty and pollutes the air. Soy candles are an Earth friendly option. - Decorate with Seasonal Options -- Whatever the time of year, the name of the game is to stay local and seasonal. Pick flowers that can be dried and reused. When decorating around your home, use any tree branches trimmed from your tree or leftover from the tree farm.
