Launching the New Bethesda Green Center
By now we hope you have received our
invitation
to the Bethesda Green Center launch and open house, October 1-3.
We are scheduling a three-day event so everyone has the opportunity to visit the first center of its kind in the region.
Our space, almost 3,000 sq. ft., is
newly renovated by Donohoe Construction Company
and their subcontractors.
They have helped us create a showcase of green materials, products and
services that includes new flooring, lights appliances, and
electronic systems.
The space features many new displays
where you can learn about other green solutions for the home or
business. A one-stop shop, displays include rainbarrels, green roofs,
water filtration systems, energy star appliances, and much more.
These products help create a healthier environment, and importantly,
can help save you money.
We are also creating jobs by
taking a unique approach to economic development. We started a Green Business Incubator
in cooperation with Montgomery County's Department of Economic
Development. Business incubators accelerate the
successful development of entrepreneurial companies by providing
business support resources and services. (Pictured below, Bethesda Green hosted a welcoming reception for the incubator companies.) From a rainbarrel manufacturer to software developers,
eight start-up firms have already joined the incubator.
Additionally, we are introducing new events and programs,
including a brown bag (waste free) lunch series, workshops
and social networking opportunities. Our featured new program is
GreenerLiving Bethesda, which will help track your energy use with online
tools at Earthaid.com and teach you how to
conserve energy and save money.
Finally, I want to draw your attention
to our new website, which has gone through a major reorganization and
design. We're grateful to the many volunteers who helped bring it
online, particularly Laurie McKee, who has managed the project from
its inception.
Thank you all; hope to see you at the
open house.
