Spring is almost here and I'm certainly ready
for a change of season.
As the weather gets warmer and we spend more
time outside, it is a good opportunity to reflect how
we can better our yards, neighborhoods and parks.
We all want to enjoy beautiful places and at the
same time, aim to ensure we treat the land well
for future generations.
With Earth Day around the corner (April 22), this month's focus is resource conservation, both in
our home and community. We have a link to the
US Department of Agriculture's website for tips on
how to better your yard through composting,
mulching, building a pond or wetlands, tree planting
and conserving water. We also highlight a local nursery,
American Plant Food that has offered green products
for years, the Town of Somerset which proclaims itself
as a 'Tree City' and a local non-profit, Little Falls Watershed Alliance that addresses water issues from Montgomery County to the Chesapeake Bay.

We have seen more
enthusiasm for Earth Day
this year than ever in the
past- a good sign that
environmental issues have
hit the mainstream. Keep
your eyes open for pro-
grams, seminars and events
near you and get involved
where you can. We list
details of a few which we
are participating on our
calendar.
Bethesda Green is also changing. Please help me in
welcoming Dave Heffernan to our team. Dave has
been the volunteer Chair of the Education, Outreach
& Marketing Committee and now becomes our
Director of Communications. Dave brings with him
years of experience in marketing, outreach and
community building
