BUILD CHANGE RECEIVES $1.5 MILLION IN GRANTS FROM THE HILTI FOUNDATION

Foundation also helped leverage additional $356,000 for Build Change from Liechtenstein Red Cross

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (November 14, 2011) - Build Change, the international non-profit social enterprise striving to increase the number of earthquake-resistant houses in earthquake-prone developing countries, has received $1.5million in grants from the Hilti Foundation. $1 million of this donation, which is a continuation of the Hilti Foundation's steadfast support of Build Change, will fund the organization's general operations and the remaining $500,000 will specifically support Build Change's Haiti operations.

The Hilti Foundation was established in 1996 as a charitable organization by the Martin Hilti Family Trust to help disadvantaged people sustainably improve their lives and provide support to those wanting to help themselves. Under its guiding principle of "building a better future", the Hilti Foundation supports activities and projects in Affordable Housing, Community Development, Culture, Disaster Relief, Education and Social Entrepreneurship.

"We are grateful to the Hilti Foundation for this extremely generous donation, which is of significant importance for Build Change," states Dr. Elizabeth Hausler, Build Change's Founder & CEO. "Given Hilti Foundation's primary interest in sustainable models for low-cost housing in developing countries, there is great synergy between the beliefs of both organizations. We understand and value each other's work."

The Hilti Foundation also helped to leverage a $356,000 grant from "Project Liechtenstein", a joint initiative of the Hilti Foundation with the Liechtenstein Red Cross, the Liechtenstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Office for Foreign Affairs and other Liechtenstein-based associations. The money will be used for Build Change's Haiti operation to support homeowner technical assistance, as well as builder and homeowner training programs

"The Hilti Foundation's continued financial and in-kind support will ensure that Build Change is able to continue pursuing its mission of greatly reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses caused by housing collapses due to earthquakes in developing countries," says Egbert Appel, Managing Director of the Hilti Foundation and Build Change Board Member. "We are proud to be part of this pioneering project."
