News at Fair Oaks Skin Care Center

A Message from Dr. Jaber

"I want to share with the patients and staff at Fair Oaks Skin Care Center the newest addition to our family has arrived!

Riana was born on June 10 at 12:57 pm, weighing 6 lbs 9 oz and 20 inches long.

She is doing well, and getting to know her big brother and big sister.  I should be back in the office on Friday July 31st, 2009.

Community Helper Day!

On May 15th the children at Little Flock Christian School
were visited by Dr. Reem Tadros and her husband Dr. Amear Tadros. The doctors volunteered their time at the annual Community Helper Day and provided information about being a doctor and a dentist, as well as health, skin care and good dental hygiene tips.

Beauty Night at Fair Oaks Skin Care Center was a great success!

In our Spring Survey you said you wanted more evening appointments and we listened. On Thursday June 25th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. we had our first Beauty Night.

Fifty-two patients came to enjoy refreshments, demos for Colorescience, and talk with an Aesthetician about peels and products. Eighteen lucky patients received Latisse at 2 boxes for $140.00! Botox was discounted to $11.00 per unit.  We missed you, if you didn't attend. Don't feel left out, we are already planning for another Beauty Night in July. Stay on our e-mail list for updates!
FRAXEL: How it works and how it may benefit you

Think of your skin as a digital photo that is delicately touched up one spot at a time. Fraxel treatment, likewise, affects a fraction of tissue at a time with thousands of microscopic laser columns - each just one-tenth the diameter of a hair follicle. Then your body takes care of the rest. The laser columns stimulate a natural healing process that works from the inside out, replacing damaged tissue with younger, smoother, healthier skin.

Fraxel is great for improving skin texture, treating acne scars and surgical scars, fine lines, wrinkles and melasma.

We have had great results treating acne scars in patients with many different skin types. It takes 4 to 6 treatments but even after one treatment the skin feels softer, looks brighter and has less irregularity.

The downtime is minimal with redness and swelling lasting 2 to 5 days but easily covered with makeup.

We have treated quite a few men with fraxel for pigmentation, fine lines and enlarged pores and they love the results. Their skin looks more youthful and they tolerate the treatment quite well with only a sunburn look for 3 to 5 days.

Testimonial from patient who recently received Fraxel Treatments

"I just had my second Fraxel treatment, I did my face, neck and chest. I am amazed at the difference it has made in my skin. I am 55, and after only the second treatment I feel like it's taken years off my face. The texture of my skin is much better, smoother, the pores look better, brown spots have improved - it's usually difficult to see subtle differences but this is very apparent to me. I am looking forward to seeing what my skin looks like after one or two more treatments!

After the first treatment I was a little swollen, looked "sunburned" and my skin broke out. I believe the break out was a result of uncovering some clogged pores. I had a little peeling. After the second treatment I broke out a tiny bit, but a lot less, looked a little more sunburned and peeled a little more, but the results after the second treatment were very apparent."

Cutera CoolGlide Laser Hair Removal

For Women & Men of All Skin Types and Tones

Now men and women alike are making unwanted facial and body hair a thing of the past - thanks to the Cutera CoolGlide Laser. No more painful waxing, electrolysis or razors! The CoolGlide laser delivers 21st century technology for treatment of this distressing problem. Cleared for permanent hair reduction, the CoolGlide laser can treat men and women of all skin types safely and effectively, year-round, even patients with a suntan.

The Cutera CoolGlide Difference

The Cutera CoolGlide was designed to be the most outstanding laser hair removal system on the market for all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients. Its unique design, longer wavelength, and innovative cooling allow extremely effective, safe and permanent results.

What do CoolGlide treatments feel like?

As the name implies, the CoolGlide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however, some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 3-6 treatments. However, the number of CoolGlide treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors - hair thickness, the area treated and your hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your CoolGlide treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

How does the CoolGlide compare with electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, the CoolGlide effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.

Summertime is time to be Sun Smart

Protect yourself from the sun

Sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor for all skin cancers, including melanoma.[1],[2] You can have fun in the sun and decrease your risk of skin cancer.

Here's how to Be Sun Smart:
  • Generously apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 to all exposed skin. The term broad-spectrum means that the sunscreen provides protection from both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Reapply every two hours - even on cloudy days - and after swimming or sweating.

  • Wear protective clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses, where possible.

  • Seek shade when appropriate. Remember that the sun's rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If your shadow appears to be shorter than you are, seek shade.
  • Protect children from sun exposure. Be sure to play in the shade, use protective clothing, and apply sunscreen.

  • Use extra caution near water, snow, and sand because they reflect and intensify the damaging rays of the sun, which can increase your chances of sunburn.

  • Get vitamin D safely through a healthy diet that may include vitamin supplements. Don't seek the sun.[3]

  • Avoid tanning beds. Ultraviolet light from the sun and tanning beds can cause skin cancer and wrinkling. If you want to look like you've been in the sun, consider using a sunless self-tanning product, but continue to use sunscreen with it.

  • Check your birthday suit on your birthday. If you notice anything changing, growing, or bleeding on your skin, see a dermatologist. Skin cancer is very treatable when caught early.
