Trust Receives $15,000 Grant from New York State toward Farms for the Future Initiative
The Conservation Partnership Program (CPP) grant, part of the Environmental Protection Fund, is administered by the Land Trust Alliance.
At the end of April, 53 land trusts across the State were awarded funding through Department of Environmental Conservation's CPP program -- for a total of $1.4 million! The program is designed to assist land trusts with operational growth and project support. The $15,000 awarded to the Peconic Land Trust is in support of our Farms for the Future Initiative.
Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Jr. said in congratulating the Trust on its award: "The East End's beauty and farming heritage, in many ways, can be attributed to the Peconic Land Trust." Thank you to Assemblyman Thiele, State Senator Ken LaValle, the NYS DEC and the Land Trust Alliance for their support of our conservation efforts.

Vegetable Gardens: Planted in 2011, this year the vegetable gardens at Bridge Gardens have doubled in size. Come and see what's new: peas are on their way, beets and carrots are up, and beautiful heirloom Yugoslavian red bibb lettuce is reaching to the sky. Early blooming alliums are also bursting with magenta color.
Bamboo Room: Closed since 2010, the "secret" bamboo room is open again. Come explore this beautiful and contemplative space -- and see the new bamboo bench and gate built by the Gardens staff and volunteers.
Volunteers: Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers this spring at the Gardens, including John Witzenbocker, Sam Masters, Amy Young, Joe Lane and Bobby Cohen, all of whom have been helping in readying the gardens and at the Lecture Series.
