Programs across the state are gearing up to feed kids when school lets out this month. Learn more about the Summer Food Program.

Families can find a Summer Food site near them by visiting www.SummerFoodOregon.org or by calling 1-800-SAFENET (1-800-723-3638). Share this info with your family, friends and neighbors.

- Portland Kick-off: June 27, 11:15am - 1:00pm. McCoy Park, N. Trenton St. & Newman Ave.
- Vernonia Kick-off: June 28, 11:30am - 1:00pm. Vernonia Community Church, 957 State St.

Farm Bill update
|
This week the Senate began debate on the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012 (S. 3240). If passed, this bill will reduce farm bill spending by $23 billion, including a $4.5 billion cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), reducing SNAP benefits by an average of $90/month for more than 65,000 Oregonians. PHFO sent staff to Washington DC to advocate against these cuts that would make hunger worse in Oregon. Senator Gillibrand (D-NY) offered an amendment that would restore some of the cuts, stating that "As a mother and lawmaker, watching a child go hungry is something that I will not stand for." Senator Wyden (D-OR) has co-sponsored the amendment. Debate on the bill is expected to continue next week. Take Action: |
