Highlights from our Listening Session in Astoria
On May 17, our staff traveled with members of the Oregon Hunger Task Force to beautiful Astoria, for a listening session with 45 community members on hunger, food systems and policy. Topics addressed included:
  • school meals
  • farmer's market expansion
  • the high costs of farm loans for small farms
  • the challenges of reaching seniors with SNAP

Sincere thanks to Marlin Martin and Clatsop Community Action, Holiday Inn Express, North Coast Food Web catering and all of our speakers for making the event a success!

Notes from the session will be available next week. For more information or to host a listening session in your community please contact Robyn Johnson.

A Big Thank You!
Recently we told you about one of our favorite projects- awarding grants to help connect more kids with meals in the summer.

Our sincere thanks to the businesses and organizations who made this possible: picnic

A private match of $25,000 was also made by Causey Associates Limited Partnership, to directly support a past grant recipient, Geller Silvis & Associates, Inc., allowing them to open a 3rd apartment-based meal site this summer and sustain two successful programs in Clackamas County!

The investment made by these groups totaled just under $100,000 and will leverage public dollars and strengthen kids, families and communities across the state for years to come.

Banks High School- Community 101
Last week we had the pleasure of visiting Banks, OR to receive a grant from high school students, as part of a Community 101 project. This grant will help purchase a flip-camera, to document the great work being done at summer meal sites around Oregon!

Funded through the Oregon Community Foundation, these students gave grants to several anti-hunger organizations, including Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. Their energy and empathy on this issue was inspiring, and we thank them!
