Autumn is just around the corner...

It has been a busy summer at PHFO. Our child nutrition team is gearing up for the school year, our SNAP outreach team helped launched three collaborative projects to reach hungry seniors in Portland, Astoria, and Pendleton, and thanks go to everyone who helped make Beer 'n' Burgers a success. Below are some highlights of what's coming up. We hope you'll get involved!

New SNAP Outreach Resources
|
SNAP Video  A joint project with Marion-Polk Food Share launched a video about how to apply for SNAP benefits. It will be shown at food pantries and other places in the community where people may need help. The video features an interview with a food pantry worker and client, and information from Nancy Weed, SNAP Outreach Coordinator. English and Spanish versions are available. Online SNAP ApplicationApply for SNAP benefits online! The new application can be submitted online, but applicants still need to complete an interview in-person or over the phone. Help spread the word by sharing this news with your colleagues and neighbors.

 Did you know that organizations that care for kids after school can serve healthy meals and receive federal reimbursement?
Use our online, interactive guide to explore your program's eligibility to sponsor the CACFP Afterschool Meal & Snack Program.
Then contact the Oregon Department of Education to learn about required trainings coming up in September.
Afterschool Conference Coming Up
Join us at OregonASK's Afterschool Conference, October 22nd. We're co-leading a workshop and will have details on new state funding to help with meal program start-up costs. This was an important success from the recent legislative session - thanks to all our partners who helped turn SB 480 into law!
