Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy begins a "State of the County" tour this week to talk with residents in each municipality about issues that are impacting them.  Meetings will be held during scheduled village, city or town board meetings and allow for questions and answers.  Local meetings will be at the

Junior Achievement & the Center for Economic Growth will be holding their 17th Annual Tech Valley Business Hall of Fame. The 2012 Hall of Fame Inductees will be James J. Barba, (President & CEO of Albany Medical Center), Michael C. Hoffman, (President of Turf Hotels), and Sister Maureen Joyce, RSM, [(1943-2010) CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany]. The Dinner and Induction Ceremony will be on Wednesday, May 02, 2012 at 5:00 PM at the Albany Marriott. For more information on this event, please view the attached flyer.

  

Community United Methodist Church in Slingerlands will offer a new mini-series in May, Finding Spirit in the Ordinary which will explore how members of other traditions seek to integrate their faith into everyday life. Each session, held on Wednesdays from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the church library at 1497 New Scotland Avenue, features a guest speaker, discussion and an activity illustrating the philosophy of the speaker's group on everyday spirituality.  Three different sessions will be offered beginning May 16th, attend one or all three. Albany and Schenectady County in conjunction with NYSERDA are offering Free Energy Seminars for Businesses. The programs will be offered on Tuesday, May 8th in Schenectady and Thursday, May 9th in Albany. For more information on these seminars check out their flyer. To register for one of the dates go to

Community Caregivers will hold its 8th Annual Community Caregivers Golf Tournament on Monday, June 18 at the Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont. They are currently looking for event sponsors for this major fundraising event. Community Caregivers provides essential services -at no cost- to residents of Berne, Bethlehem, Guilderland, Knox and New Scotland. If you cannot sponsor the event please consider donating a raffle prize.

Cindy RosenthalCongratulations to Cindy Rosenthal, Branch Manager of Berkshire Bank in Delmar. Cindy was recently honored as 1 of 6 "Volunteers of the Year" by Berkshire Bank. This annual award celebrates employees who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. Award recipients were selected based on their strong record of volunteerism and service to nonprofit organizations both in bank-sponsored volunteer projects and in the broader community. An awards luncheon was held in Pittsfield at Berkshire Bank headquarters where the recipients received their awards from Executive Vice President of Human Resources Linda Johnston.  Each award winner also received a $500 donation that will be made to the nonprofit organization of their choice.  

Berkshire Bank will be opening its new Delmar Branch on June 4, 2012. They will have a new Community Room that can be booked for meetings. If you are interested in finding out more about booking this space contact Cindy Rosenthal at 475-2591.   

    

Direct, local giving ...with dignity.  Do you know someone with grant writing experience?  Grassroot Givers is a local nonprofit organization looking for a volunteer to help with grant writing.  Our mission is to make a connection between the needs in our community and those who have resources to share.  In April 2011, Grassroot Givers opened a community store in the Arbor Hill area, providing individuals and families (men, women, children, veterans)  with an opportunity to shop in a beautiful store,  free of charge.  If you have grant writing expertise to share, please contact Roberta Sandler at  817-5921 or by e-mail, [email protected].

Good Samaritan Village Open House, Wednesday, May 9th, 4- 7 pm at 125 Rockefeller Road, Delmar. Join us for hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, take a tour and learn more about our three levels of care: independent senior apartments, adult home living and skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation. The Bethlehem Business Women's Group invites you to join them for their "Spring Trip to the Culinary Institute of America" on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. The event includes a one hour tour of the Culinary Institute, lunch at 11:30 am at the Caterina de Medici Restaurant and a trip to the Adams Fairacre Farms to visit their indoor/outdoor nurseries and garden center. The Yankee Trails bus leaves at 8 am from the Park & Ride lot on Delaware Ave opposite the Delaware Plaza. The cost for the day is $85. Reservations and payment are being accepted through April 2nd to guarantee your seat.
