Vol 2 Issue 13 |
|
November came in with a bang with some early snow here in Colorado and lots going on in the shop. We are grinding about 300 pairs per week right now, and selling a lot of the great skis we picked over the summer.
The deadline for getting skis to us to have them done at West Yellowstone is Friday, Nov 13. We take the grinder to West Yellowstone on Nov 19, so there will be no grinding in the Boulder shop from Nov 20-Dec 1.

BNS Contest - First Drawing Nov 8 |
| |
 |
Fischer Classic Boot & Toko Jacket/Pant Kick Things Off
We're launching our season-long series of prize giveaways with over $12,000 of skis, boots, poles, wax and clothing up for grabs. The first drawing takes place Nov 8th for a pair of Fischer Carbonlite Classic Boots, Toko Nanna Pants & Swift Jacket, a Holmenkol Wax kit, SkiGo Graphite Glide Waxes, as well as a Madshus Ski Bag and Training Hat. Six winners will be chosen at random from those who register before 8PM MST November 8online at www.bouldernordicsport.com, in person at BNS stores in Boulder, CO or Portland, ME. No purchase is necessary. See bouldernordic.com for rules. The next prize drawing will be held November 16th.

November 8th Prizes: (6 winners will be selected)
The Fischer Carbonlite Classic Boot is the lightest classic boot at 370g (size 42). It has an extremely supple F5 NNN sole that gives incredible feel for the ski at the ball of the foot while maintaining lateral and torsional stiffness for control. Fischer's innovative snake lacing concept provides powerful and quick closure making the boot feel like a second skin.
The Toko Nanna Pant & Swift Jacket incorporate laser-cut and welded seams for a beautifully composed soft shell warm-up set for women. Both pieces are highly wind and water resistant yet amazingly breathable. The Nanna pant has a fleece lining in front for extra cold days and full side zips for easy removal without having to take off skis.
The Holmenkol wax kit highlights Holmenkol's legendary service/training waxes and two of our favorite tools. Holmenkol Beta Mix Red is one of the world's most popular waxes and is legendary as a high-quality, inexpensive base prep, travel and training wax due to its easy application and broad range of performance (All snow types -4 to -14C). Ultramix Blue (Cold & Aggressive snow -8 to -20C) is an excellent base hardener for cold and aggressive snow, and Alphamix Yellow (Soft, New & Fine-Grained Snow 0 to -4C) works as a training and base saturation wax. The Holmenkol Pro Groove Scraper is a huge upgrade to any wax kit and uses Aluminum instead of plastic to make scraping skis a pleasure and maintain sharpness. Combine this with the Holmenkol Steel Microfinish Base Brush for quick work prepping skis, especially for cold, dry waxes.
SkiGo Graphite waxes replenish bases while adding dry lubrication and durability for race waxes. Use XC hydrocarbon graphite for base prep and added durability in training, and the LF Low Fluoro graphite for base prep, and as a base layer to add durability for races longer than 2.5km, especially in aggressive snow. |

Stone Grinding, Clinics and Wax Support on Tap Nov 21-28
BNS will once again bring a full-service stone-grinding ski shop to the West Yellowstone Ski Festival November 21-28, 2009. BNS will be located at 415 Yellowstone Avenue, in the Rendezvous Snowmobile Rentals Garage across the street from the trailhead.
Services available during the festival include stone grinding, waxing, heat box treatments, ski flex testing and fleet evaluations with BNS's proprietary testing equipment.
Skis shipped to BNS Boulder for grinding or hand-selected skis purchased from Boulder Nordic Sport before Nov 13 will be available for pickup Nov 21-28 in West Yellowstone, waxed and ready to ski. Skiers can drop off skis to be ground during the Festival Nov 21-Nov 28 at 415 Yellowstone Avenue or at the Holiday Inn Expo Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7-9PM. Turnaround time at the Festival will be 1-3 days.
We are also using this opportunity to get out and do some grind and ski testing on snow. We have a test fleet of about 25 pairs of Madshus, Fischer, Atomic and Rossignol skis that we will be testing as well as helping out many of the elite athletes we work with on skis. If you are heading to West Yellowstone and are looking for a special ski, give us a call and we can see if we can put you on something to try while you're there.
BNS is running 4 clinics as part of the Expo. One each for SkiGo and Holmenkol, and 2 brand-neutral discussions of how skis work, what is being done at the World Cup Level to make skis fast, and how you can apply that to your real-world situation as a coach or self-supported athlete. |

Get the New 09-10 BNS Magazine |

 |
Download Now Available
When we set out writing our new magazine this summer, the goal was to share some of what we've learned doing high-level race service and try to show how to apply the most important information to real-world waxing. It has been out for just over a month and we're pretty impressed with ourselves, especially since it seems to have caused one of our competitors to go insane with envy.
But don't trust us, because we could be pretending. Check it out for yourself: download it, request a mailed copy, or pick one up at our shops or at the Yellowstone Fall Festival. We're excited to hear what you think: bad and good. Give it a read and let us know what we missed or how we could clarify things. We are working on videos and articles to further develop these ideas and feedback and suggestions will help us focus on what we've missed. |

New Casco Nordic Shields Have Arrived |
| |
 |
New Photochromatic Lens
New for 2009-2010, the popular Casco shield gets a big upgrade with the addition of Vautron Intelligent Lens Technology. Vautron is an optically superior polymer used in Apache Helicopter Windscreens that is photochromic and automatically adjusts to light conditions to quickly provide the appropriate amount of filtering.
The Casco shield is a flip-up ski shield with excellent coverage. Very popular among biathletes, it has made in-roads into Cross-country. The shield is coated with a special anti-fog treatment, it protects against UV-A, -B, and -C rays. The shield covers the face nearly ear to ear yet does not fog due to the space between the face and shield.
