Selecting Skis for an Elite Fleet
 Editor's Note: Kevin Höchtl is a member of Team Rossignol and is a former World Record Holder in the 100m Sprint. He is one of the many elite athletes BNS works closely with on ski selection and stone grinding. Thanks to Kevin for sending this story in that highlights the process we go through to help skiers at all levels manage race fleets.
At the end of the 2007-2008 season I sat down with my coach and evaluated areas in which I needed to improve. One of the key needs we identified was ski selection and grinds and we started working with Boulder Nordic Sport (BNS) to gain the expertise of Nathan Schultz and Peter Abraham to help me pick and manage my fleet of skis.
Our first meeting was in Crested Butte for an on snow ski camp that was put on by Boulder Nordic Sport and Jesse Crandall of Western State College. The skiing could not have been better. We trained twice a day on snow from June 4th through June 8th. The conditions were impressive at Kebler pass, which received over 900 inches of snow last season. Even on the last day we were treated to 4 inches of new snow and extra blue classic skiing with hard tracks. Over the course of the camp, we discussed my ski needs and developed our plan to acquire great skis and then determine grinds to match those skis.
In July I met Nathan at Boulder Nordic Sport and we spent a morning flexing my old fleet of skis to see what I had and make a list of what I needed. We tested camber heights, relative stiffness of the ski, soft tips, hard tails etc. With the knowledge of how each ski felt on snow from the previous season and its individual flex on the flex bench we determined what ski would get what grinds and then made a list of what we were looking for to complete the quiver of race skis.

Swedish Vasaloppet Trip |

Price Reduced! With the fluctuations in the economy and the strengthening dollar against European currency, we are reducing the price of our Swedish Vasaloppet trip by $600.
The Swedish Vasaloppet trip Feb 24 - Mar 2, 2009 includes 6 days preparing for the race with advice and coaching from previous winner Henrik Eriksson and BNS owner Nathan Schultz. With accomodation in the center of all of the action and race support from a crew of local Swedes, we will have a great time doing the biggest and most celebrated ski race in the world.
This trip includes all ground transport, lodging, meals, coaching, waxing, race support and race entry fee. It does not include airfare.
Pricing is $2000 before Jan 15, 2009. Please contact us if you are interested as space is very limited and early lodging arrangements will help guarantee a spot.
