Stride Ahead This Summer in amazing New Zealand
BNS is once again running two camps to New Zealand in July and August.  The camps are a fabulous opportunity to be immersed in the skiing life in one of the most beautiful places on earth.  Daily coaching on snow is complemented with instruction on technique, video analysis, training, waxing/ski prep and many other topics.  The junior camp runs July 20-Aug 1 and the Masters Camp is Aug 4-14.  New Zealand Skiing

Putting Away Skis for the Summer

This is the best thing you can do to make your skis fast
While we'll be skiing here until at least mid-June, many people are succumbing to the warm days and hanging up the skis for the winter.  Take a few simple steps to store them properly and you will be amazed at how fast they are in the fall.

Step 1: Base Prep
Start by brushing out your skis with a metal brush to open up the base, remove dirt and clean out the structure.  Our favorites for this job are Fine Steel and Medium Bronze.  Repair any edge scrapes or trouble spots as needed.  Stone grinding will give tired bases new life, flatten the base and add a fast structure for specific snow conditions, so it may be a good option.  Now is the best time to get it done.  Send them in early and let them absorb wax all summer, instead of rushing to get them done in the fall and then having to do extra wax work.

Step 2: Clean
Deep cleaning the base requires waxing with an iron and a soft wax such as Swix CH10, Base Prep or Toko Yellow.  With the iron at a low temperature (120C), melt a thick layer of wax into the base and continue with three quick passes, always keeping the iron moving from tip to tail.  The wax should remain molten and you will want to quickly scrape the wax before it cools.  Dirt will be evident in the scraped wax.  Follow up by wiping the remaining wax with Fiberlene as it cools and you will pull out more dirt.  Let the ski cool completely and repeat waxing and hot-scraping until dirt stops coming out.

Step 3: Wax
The last step is easy.  Apply a thick, even coat of wax and let it cool.  Leave the wax on (don't scrape) and store the skis in a clean place.  They will absorb wax all summer and the wax layer will keep them from collecting dirt.  Scrape the wax off in the Fall and you'll be impressed with the results.

We choose different waxes depending on what skis we are working on.  For cold skis, we use Swix LF6 and for warmer skis, Swix LF7 or LF8.  Warmer waxes (yellows) are not the best choice as they seem to be too soft to stay on the ski all summer.  Straight Hydrocarbon (CH) waxes are fine, too.

Don't want to do all of this?  Bring your skis in and we'll take care of it for you.
